The BMW threw a crankshaft position sensor OBD error code and the vehicle couldn’t be driven, even in limp home mode. I installed this new sensor and all is good.
The sensor on the engine is quite difficult to find. I spent more time looking for it then replacing it. On the 6 cylinder engine the sensor is located near the back of the induction side of the engine, on the drivers side. In the picture above I’m using a wrench to point to the location of the sensor. It is near the lower part of the engine in the back so the end of the wrench is 6-8″ above where the sensor actually is. I had to use a mirror to see it as it’s under the induction system. The sensor is held in place with an E10 Torx head bolt. The bolt is single use according to BMW. It would be wise to replace the bolt and purchase a new o-ring too. Neither come with the sensor. I used a 1/4″ drive ratchet with a three inch extension to remove and install the bolt, working by feel.

E83 N52–sensor fits and works like OE. Corrected several related faults (Cam timing code, torque converter code). Only 4 stars because it should have come with replacement bolt but didn’t.

Works great on my BMW 2007 335i N54

Its kind of a pain to install, but it works great. My car was having weird shifting at 3rd to 4th gear, and would drop to limp home mode, and show a transmission error. I would have to pull over, and turn the car off and back on. Also, it would sometimes jump and shut off while idling at a traffic lights. It seems like it would happen most often when it was raining and humid out. Turns out this sensor would stop working, and the engine computer would lose crankshaft position, which screws everything up, including the transmission and torque converter parameters. I installed this sensor and everything works great now.

Not original and had to trim a little for the notch to line up.

The part fit yes. However it did not fix the problem. I bought the Oem from BMW and it cleared the trans issue red gear symbol code. This is one of those part where you have to go with the oem. Taking of the intake to replace
this part is timely. Do not waste your time like I did trying to save some money. Cost $ 170.00 at the dealer.

The week after replacing my radiator, car started throwing the half yellow filled engine symbol and going into limp mode/engine malfunction reduced power mode. (Not sure if the two were related but it is what it is) I got the long crank symptom once or twice before scanning for codes: got 2A94 DME crankshaft sensor and 3100 DME boost pressure deactivation. 51A6 EGS engine signal and 5E1A DSC engine management. Researched online and figured it was the crankshaft sensor. So I bought this one and replaced it. At first, I thought the part was cheap junk cause my car was bucking and the rpm’s were bouncing around like a lowrider. Again looked online and figured maybe it was a dirty MAF/pressure sensor and a possible vacuum leak. After cleaning the sensor by the air box and throttle body, cleaning the tips of fuel injectors, getting new spark plugs, and checking for vacuum leaks STILL was acting the same. Chalking it up to a cheap Amazon sensor, I grabbed the old sensor to see what brand it was so I could buy a new one of the same brand, I noticed it didn’t have an oring!! Basically had two orings and the sensor gap was too large causing the engine to act up. Morale of the story: make sure the old oring comes out with the old sensor. Removed the old (green) oring from the engine hole, put the new sensor back on and all was good. Issue fixed.

It does the job is a nice cheap option to replace your sensor.
I was a little worried about the performance but it did the job fabulous

    It works for BMW E83.
I purchased this in May-2022. Since then it has been working fine.
For those who is going to buy and replace: do it from below the vehicle for much simpler work, you may not be able to see it directly but rely on the feel from hand though.
