There is no tolerance between the cable nut and the housing in an alpha 1 gen one.
Noah Walker –
Seeing the reviews before i bought it, i thought that they just weren’t careful enough… I was wrong, this is a 15mm and the lower shift cable on a Alpha 1 Gen 2 is a 9/16″… I was careful and knock it on with a hammer to get it as tight as it would get but it rounded off the hex completely… Had to go buy a $40 bolt extractor and had to use the 1/2″ extractor to hammer on and very carefully screw it out. DO NOT BUY THIS YOU MIGHT AS WELL BUY A BOLT EXTRACTOR KIT!!!!

This socket is metric and Mercruser is not. Socket provides,a loose sloppy fit that rounds off the nut, making it impossible to remove
Removal socket –
It’s the only way to get it done

The shift cable requires a 9/16″ socket . I tried the socket and it rounded out the nut , then I got a proper 9/16″ socket and removed the cable no problem

We pulled the engine out of the boat, put it back in and the tool is a must have. Worked perfect
Surfsnook –
Well made, no issues installing the component.
garry –
It stripped out after I got half way from screwing the shift cable in
Amazon Customer –
Worked ok for the install. It seems a bit oversized so it could easily round the nut.

This socket is the wrong size for a alpha one shift cable it is a 15mm and the shift cable is 9/16. it is actually just a nut welded to a 15m socket and painted black it is useless.
