The Weasch Waterproof Relay Kit, 12V 40A, 5 Pin SPDT, is designed for automotive, marine, and boat applications. It provides a reliable solution for controlling electrical devices that require high-power switching, such as lighting, horns, fans, and other accessories in vehicles and boats. This relay kit includes everything needed for installation, making it a convenient and functional addition for anyone looking to add electrical accessories to their vehicle or vessel.
Pros:
Waterproof Design: The waterproof relay and harness are perfect for vehicles and boats, where exposure to moisture is common. This feature ensures the longevity and reliability of the relay even in wet conditions, making it highly suitable for marine environments or off-road vehicles.
Heavy-Duty 14 AWG Tinned Copper Wires: The use of 14 AWG tinned copper wires ensures the relay kit can handle higher power demands (up to 40A) without overheating or failing. The tinned copper wires are more resistant to corrosion than regular copper, which is especially important in marine and automotive applications where exposure to the elements is common.
40A Current Rating: This relay kit is designed to handle up to 40A of current, making it ideal for powering heavy-duty accessories that draw more current. It’s suitable for larger lighting systems, winches, or other accessories that require substantial power. This heavy-duty rating ensures that it can handle demanding tasks without worrying about failure or damage.
5 Pin SPDT Relay: The 5 Pin Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) relay configuration offers flexibility in controlling devices. SPDT relays allow you to switch between two separate circuits, giving you the ability to manage multiple devices with one relay. This configuration is often preferred for its versatility in automotive and marine applications.
Complete Kit: The kit includes all the necessary components for installation, including the relay, wiring, fuse, and connectors. This makes it a one-stop solution, eliminating the need to purchase additional parts or accessories. Whether you’re installing it in a car, boat, or off-road vehicle, everything you need to set it up is included.
Versatile Use: The Weasch Waterproof Relay Kit is ideal for a variety of applications beyond just cars, boats, or trucks. It can also be used for lighting setups, auxiliary fans, or powering other electrical components that require switching. The universal nature of the kit makes it versatile for various vehicles and marine setups.
Durable Construction: The relay and wiring are well-made, with quality insulation that protects against wear and tear, ensuring long-term durability. The relay’s housing is designed to resist damage from vibrations, making it a reliable choice for vehicles that experience rough terrain or harsh environments.
Cons:
Basic Relay Kit: While this kit is well-made and functional, it’s fairly basic compared to other high-end options that might include additional features such as multiple relays or sophisticated switches. This kit is perfect for most standard applications, but those with complex electrical setups or needing multiple switches may find it limiting.
Size and Installation Space: Depending on your vehicle or boat’s available space, the size of the relay and wiring might require careful consideration. It might not fit in extremely tight spaces or in certain vehicles with limited room for installation. Proper planning for mounting and wiring is needed to ensure a clean and functional setup.
Limited Documentation: Some users might find the included instructions to be basic or not detailed enough for those who are new to electrical systems. A more comprehensive user manual could be helpful for beginners, especially when dealing with installation in complex environments like boats or marine systems.
40A Rating Could Be Overkill for Some: While the 40A current rating is a strength, it might be overkill for lighter-duty applications. If you’re using the relay kit for small accessories that draw less current, you may not need such a high rating, and other kits with lower amperage may be more cost-effective.
Overall Verdict:
The Weasch Waterproof Relay Kit, 12V 40A, 5 Pin SPDT is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add electrical accessories to their automotive, marine, or off-road vehicle. Its waterproof design and heavy-duty wiring make it suitable for harsh environments, whether on the road or at sea. The 40A current rating ensures it can handle powerful accessories without issue, and the 5 Pin SPDT relay offers flexibility in controlling multiple circuits.
While it’s a basic, no-frills kit that may not be suited for more complex setups, it’s perfect for users who need a reliable and durable solution for their electrical needs. The kit provides great value for those who want a straightforward, easy-to-install relay system without the need for additional components.
If you need a simple, affordable, and effective solution for powering high-current devices in a water-resistant package, the Weasch Waterproof Relay Kit is a solid option. Just make sure it’s suitable for the current demands of your specific application to get the most out of its capabilities.

This puppy is over engineered. I’m using it to automatically turn on lights, and accessories on my E-Bike when the bike is powered on. I tapped into the controllers 36v with a buck step to provide 12v. I run that to this relay that gets switched by tapping into the headlight 12v. Once the headlight gets power this relay switches on and provides the rest of the lights and accessories with 12v. That way I don’t need an extra switch to worry about. It all just comes on when I power the bike on. Makes life a lot easier.

The kit is quite nice, included is the relays, connector and mount that you can choose to not attach. I’m using it for a high current project so can’t speak on car installation performance, but it works well as a relay

This relay ended up being overkill for my application but it is impressive nonetheless. The contacts are fully sealed and should stand up to dirt and moisture of the elements.

Check out my video for a more in depth look at these. In summary; great quality but very hard to connect and pull apart. Still perfectly useable but you may have to wrestle with it a little. Recommended, nevertheless.

This product is advertised as a 40 amp relay, but that’s only part of the story. The included wiring harness uses 14 AWG wire, which is only rated for around 15 amps. Running 40 amps through this as labeled is not just misleading — it’s a potential fire hazard. Nowhere in the listing does it clearly warn users that the wiring limits the actual safe capacity. This could cause serious damage if someone installs it expecting it to handle what the relay is supposedly rated for. This setup should not be marketed as 40A without a clear disclaimer. Buyers beware.
