The video showing how to install does not explain how to check for which side of a fuse power comes in and to make sure the add a fuse adapter is installed to make sure the battery power comes in on the side without the wire so that the power goes through the fuse to the circuit, and not directly to the circuit.
IF no fuse protection and a wire gets grounded it will pull until the wires burn out. That is what the fuse does, if grounded it blows and the power is cut off at the blown fuse.
Also, that 15 amp fuse they show being used is WAY TOO large for the wires on the USB plug and most likely for the the camera itself.
The ending of the video does show how to run the wires quite well.
However, the kit itself looks good, makes for a very easy install.
Just did the install, this kit makes the install a dream. Very easy only problem I had was due to the vehicle’s wiring layout and that is it. I mounted to the right side of the rearview mirror so it was not in my line of sight, and wanted to run the wires to the right side IP fuse panel, located on the end of the right side of the dash panel. That was a no go and took me sometime. I wanted to connect to a circuit that is hot only with ignition ON, and to my surprise there was no circuit from that panel that was hot in ign only, they were all hot at all times.
So had to run the wire to the left side fuse panel and even there, most were hot at all times, but found a circuit, installed after making sure which side of the fuse panel connector was hot with ign On so that the power would go through the fuse and not directly to the circuit.
But once that was solved, it works great and did a write up on the N1 Pro camera page.
And the kit came with a 5 amp fuse which should be ok. I’m guessing the camera will not pull more than 3 amps so 5 amps would be perfect.

this is smaller than most converter which is less clunky if you hide underneath the dashboard.

Vantrue makes 3 different hard wire kits and this one is THE BEST of the bunch. It’s the best because you can set a timer to shut off after 1, 3, 6 or 12 hrs and it also has a low voltage cut off circuit to protect your battery from going completely dead. The hardest part of the installation was finding a fuse that is switched off (ACC) with the ignition. I use a volt meter to assist with that task. My car also has a fuse box diagram that lists ACC for the fuse that I chose. After finding the correct fuses to connect to it’s a matter of unplugging the fuse and plugging in the included fuse adapters, no splicing or cutting into your wiring harness. I did try their OBDII hardwire kit and it interfered with the function of my auto dimming rear view mirror preventing it from dimming. Their other hard wire kit only has low voltage protection with no timers. I have my timer set to 3 hrs which should cover the amount of time I might be out shopping or whatever. Dash cams really draw a lot of power and will drain a battery dead without one of these kits.

good to work dashcam while on parking mode

First of all, the cables work perfectly and do the job. Love that it came with several different fuse connections as that was helpful. Also love that the pack came with fuses already in the connectors so I didn’t have to go out and buy fuses for this. The bad part of this is the installation. It wasn’t easy but in the end, worth it. Depending on where your fuse box is placed, this can be a nightmare and unusable or can be an easy process. My 2016 Subaru Legacy was not easy but definitely doable. My partners 2017 Toyota Camry was unusable, specifically because of the fuse box placement and the fact that she has side airbags where you should be hiding the cables. Returned one of these (bought 2) due to the bad placement in Toyota. All in all, really like the hidden cables and that I don’t have to mess with my dash cam anymore. Just turn my car on and off and the dash cam follows.
Just a side note, it’s strange that their “installation video” is from a guy who purchased the older model kit and recorded his installation. It’s not an official Vantrue video. Thought that was sloppy and unprofessional, which is why I removed 1 star. Come on people, make your own video showcasing the newer model that you’re selling here.

Likes:
– Includes more than necessary to install: individuals leads and fuses for every type of fuse out there.
– Quality crimps and components
– Good length on the cables
– Well packaged
– Excellent price
Dislikes:
– It *may* interfere with your fuse box cover, although it is not very likely.
– The extra slack cable has to be stored somewhere. Would be nice to have a way to shorten some of them.
I would recommend this as a time and aggravation saver when installing a Dash Cam. It gives a cleaner final outcome compared to the OBD plug that comes with some Vantrue cameras. By the way, this works on all Dash Cams that take a mini-usb plug and 5V. You can choose to install it on an ACC switched circuit (key on) or an always on circuit, depending on your use case. If you want to have 24/7 monitoring, including motion detection, you need to have an always on circuit, which is what I did. Most cameras will shut off the main power and recording until they sense either a shock (acceleration) or motion is detected (check your specific camera’s specs for this option) at which time, they will turn back on and record. Hence the need for always-on power.
To install the only tool you will need is one to loosen a bolt and slip the u-shaped ground connector around the base and re-tighten. Everything else requires just hands. Some may find additional tools useful, but they will not be necessary.
