Found out later, there really is no reason to remove the plug. The proper way to fill these VW transmissions is through a tube and adapter attached to the drain plug

It’s a cap. Fits like oe. Not much more you can say.

The original plug’s two o-rings were a bit mangled but it was cheaper to buy this than the o-rings.
