This kit has so many design flaws. The L-shaped bolts are over 9″ long, not 8″ as described in product detail. Check to make sure they fit under your hood as they make stick up too high to close car hood. The major flaw with this is the L-shaped elbow which is supposed to slip into a metal loop at your battery base and when attached and tightened to top bracket will hold battery in place. Because they are L-shaped, not J-Shaped, the bolts slide around lower brackets and slip off when trying to tighten top bolts. Product picture shows it comes with 2 washers but it does not. Needs to include 2 lock washers so wingnuts will not untighten from car vibrations and jolts while driving. The 2 wingnuts are a great idea for easy tightening during periodic maintenance, but you cannot tighten them down on both sides because on one side of the bracket the wingnut hits the top of bracket and will not turn down tight. Learn from my oversight and buy a battery holddown kit with J-shaped bolts.

When I bought my truck (used) I found that the battery was held in place by gravity and a tight battery cable. For an off-road 4×4? Not good enough in my book!
To install this I had to first drill a couple of holes in my battery tray for the J-bolts. Then I put the battery in its place and marked the length. When you’re cutting the bolts to size, run a nut or the provided wingnut down past where you’ll be cutting it. Then when you’re done with the hacksaw you can run the nut out to make sure that the threads still work. I cut them to size and installed the battery, then put the cross piece on and ran the wingnuts down to secure it. The threads ended before the wingnuts got close to the cross piece, so it’s over to the hardware store to get some nylon spacers. Having done that, my battery isn’t going anywhere, and road or trail shocks will not launch the battery.
It’s about as good as a universal product can be, and the price is pretty good, too!

A certain popular store had sold me and “installed” a car battery. I later discovered they didn’t bother to put back the hold down clamp, so the battery was able to move around. I bought this basic clamp. It installed easily. The bracket that goes over the center of the battery is adjustable to fit the width of your car’s battery tray. The long bolt/hooks then grab onto the bottom of your existing battery tray. Since the bracket’s adjustable, and the bolts are long, this hold down clamp’s pretty much universal and easy to install.

As of 08-27-24 I can say that this battery holder is great. Has been holding well for all these years. Holds regular battery (non lithium” so it does not show signs od rust yet… might upload a pic if I can

Replaced an existing carrier; better material and fit.

I read several reviews before about this. It is a universal battery hold down. So that means you may need to make some modifications. It is nice and sturdy and works well. The hold down bolts are really long so you will need to cut them probably. I just put them in with the hold down in and marked about an inch above – took them out and cut them. Easy. The hold down bolts are L-shaped and not j-shaped or a hook. Easy. I just put them in a vice and smacked the end with a hammer. Boom they are now a J to V shaped on the end and hook perfectly. The battery hold down itself has ridges that will prevent you from tightening up the wing nuts. To solve this issue you can stack washers or a nut and a washer or you can just flatten the ridges with a hammer on the same vice you just used to bend the ends. Easy. The reviews were kinda funny to read since this is universal and will probably need some type of modification to make it work. The only drawback was that they didn’t include a thick washer to ride under the wing nut. That would have solved the ridges problem. And it was on the picture so. Other than that, pretty nice hold down. With all the modifications it probably took 15 minutes to install.

    Not an OEM fit.

The battery hold down is sturdy and a good product… the only thing that needs improvement is the tabs that stick up on the side of the wing nut stop the wing nut from tightening the cross bar down. I just used a crescent wrench or hammer to bend the tabs down a little as shown in the pic. The other issue is the metal rods are not bent at a angle its the shape of L. I put the metal bar in a vise and hit it a bunch of times in till the L shape was bent to a V shape…. other than that its a good buy!

I own two Pathfinders, that didn’t have the correct battery hold downs. This unit is my second unit for my second Pathfinder since the first worked flawlessly! I do some pretty rough off road adventures and this unit is better than OEM! Fitment is better especially if you get a bigger battery than OEM since it can be adjusted to the battery size! GET IT you won’t be disappointed! I wish these were sold locally because I’d buy in bulk. I’m a 30 year certified mechanic.
