I actually installs this myself and is working fine…… WATCH OUT! When you plug in the wire harness, it only goes in one way! I broke the little piece of plastic and had to tape it a little. There is this little plastic ridge and look at it very carefully to line it up.

I purchased this because at that time it was the best deal online and locally (April ‘23). There were no concerns upon receiving this alternator; it arrived in perfect condition and my husband said it very easy to install.
For context, I had also purchased & replaced my battery, spark plugs, fuel pump, and AC compressor.
About 2 months ago, I noticed a few times after not driving for a few days and I felt the car is misfiring and rpms sitting lower than normal at idle. I ignored it since my car could still run and drive. Of course these symptoms progressed more frequently until it couldn’t run anymore.
As part of a diagnosing the vehicle, all parts that were recently replaced were tested and only this alternator failed all tests. I installed a used alternator off of my brother’s forester and it started up, drove fine for 40 miles.
I knew my Amazon return window was closed and went straight to the manufacturer, TYC’s website, filled out the form for a warranty replacement here:
https://www.genera.com/Warranty-Policy.html
I submitted a claim even though TYC’s policy specifically states they do not warranty parts unless it was installed by a “recognized service dealer and a certified technician” because I just thought they would make an exception given my husband is a certified tech and I have diagnostic results when he tested the part at his work, which is a recognized repair shop..
Luckily, Amazon was great to accept the return for a full refund 7 months later. The 2 stars is merely for Amazon’s service.
I just took the photos of the alternator just to show It’s still as clean as it was when I first got it and it didn’t fail due to natural/environment forces; either external or internal erosion, like effects of salt-air corrosion and/or electrolysis from internal cooling system fluids.

Do not order this product!!! I ordered the first alternator it failed at almost exactly at the 2 years old anniversary if initial instalation. Amazon warranty replaced this one. The warrantied alternator has now failed almost exactly 2 years later. No warranty because it was replaced once before. Expect this alternator to only last about 2 years or 25000km or less before it fails. Words of wisdom from Amazon is and I quote “If you are buying an alternator don’t buy it from amazon buy it directly from the manufacturer, that way you may get warranty”. I agree!! Since many companies offer lifetime warranty on these types of products. These alternators are not worth being stranded twice on the side of the road. My advice is buy something else from a different supplier who will stand behind the product.

After some weeks of use I noticed it get very hot. Today, it stop working in the highway, far away from home. Battery died of course and the problem was in the rotor. The rotor winding was the failure… so these Chinese components are very low quality. My OEM lasts for more than 20 years!

The local parts stores (the big three…you know?) all were twice the price plus core charge. And, to add insult none had it in stock. So I had to weigh it out “wait 4 days and get it for twice as much” or ” Three days and pay less” I am no genius but I think I made the right choice. Old one out new one in in 20 min and functions fine in my 2007 Outback.

Well you can learn from me. This alternator made it a whopping 2500 miles then poof. I took it and had it tested by an alternator / generator repair shop and they confirmed. He said they don’t even rebuild these since they are such junk. Probably lower quality than AutoZone or O’Reilley’s etc. and there, for a few bucks more after your core you get some kind of warranty. Wasted $110. Rebuild or OEM is best, AutoZone or O’Reilley’s is probably next since although they are junk too you do get a warranty. Maybe Napa would be a bit better. Anyway, I just got an unknown mileage one from a junk yard and expect it will do better than this did.

Went bad less than a year and of course I can’t return now because of the return window is only like 3 month. That’s sucks!!!!

PERFECT FIT FOR 2006 FORESTER. VERY WELL BUILT. IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL FROM FACTORY UNIT. INSTALLED IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES.

Arrived on time in excellent packaging. Easy to install, perfect fit. Current output and voltage level same as OEM. Make sure your battery, wiring and belt are in good shape.

The best part is that it is brand new. It is not rebuilt like most of them other options on Amazon. And it’s cheaper too
