For a few months I’ve been tinkering with parts to build a custom 12V power station box and saw that this kit already includes almost everything I need assembled together, minus the batteries. It offers spacious capacity in rugged water-resistant plastic box. The lid is wired up with all the electrical components, wires, and connectors. As strong storms come through town with the potential to knock out power for multiple days, I want to have a back up for keeping phones charged, and maybe be able to power a computer and modem for a short period of time.
This power box offers:
• an on/off switch
• voltmeter with digital display – show battery life capacity
• USB A & C ports for charging mobile devices
• 12V outlet found in vehicles (or cigarette lighter adapter) – use with car chargers, tire pumps, etc.
• built-in resettable circuit breaker
• a pair of 50A Anderson ports – can be used to provide power to devices/appliances or used to bring in power to charge the batteries
• positive and negative terminals posts on the back for custom connections with wire, clamps, or round/forked electrical connectors –
If using the positive post connector to attach to solar or external battery charger, it is suggested to use a 60A fuse-protected connection. If connecting through the Anderson connectors, each is already are wired up with fuse on the positive side. Another note for solar charging is to invest in a charge controller (MPPT is preferable over PWM) and install it between solar panels and this power box to regulate the current going into the battery to match its needs.
This box does not have a DC to AC power inverter, so there’s no 120V outlet option. However, I do have a separate inverter that I can plug into it if needed to power a TV, modem, router, small fridge, etc.
There is a nylon strap to wrap around the whole box to secure it when closed. Personally, I would have liked a couple of mechanical latches. But, if the strap ever wears out, a leather belt would work as a substitute.
Side handle grips allow you to take this with you wherever you need to go. A top handle would be nice, but I understand that if for some reason the top came loose and the bottom fell out, the falling batteries would pull all the wiring connections with them.
Last, the cost seems high to me since you still need to purchase batteries as well. Looking around though, it is comparable in price to similar products offering the same capability. Some others offer a top handle as well as ventilation though.

I will be adding a 125 amp Anderson connector to parallel connect it to another battery I have that also has a 300 amp Anderson connector I use with a 2500 watt inverter in emergencies. The built in 50 amp Anderson connectors, 12v port, SB charger, and the wire connectors on the back make this box useful for camping and other various uses.

So far this box appears to work pretty well. The wire management inside is nice and clean and everything on it works. Nothing turns on unless you turn the switch on, but the one downfall I found is that the on/off switch is very hard to turn both ways.
This may turn into a problem down the road, but we’ll see.
I installed a group 31 LifePo4 100ah battery and all works as it should.

This was something I didn’t know I needed until I had it. I have a solar generator – 2, in fact. So this is similar in a way. I like the circuit breaker. It was a great value!

This thing is going to be an awesome addition to my little fishing boat this summer. I won’t have to worry about taking a power bank with me now as I have USB-A and USB-C ports now standard by the motor. The box isn’t particularly stronger or sturdier than any other standard battery box, but the power options and battery level meter have made it worth my while.

If you’re looking for an easy way to have extra power on camping trips or in a grid-down situation, this is the box you need. Just add a deep cycle or LiFePO4 battery and you’re good to go. It has the wiring you need to connect the battery and the assorted outputs work with pretty much any 5v-12v device. The design is well though out, making it convenient to use to run computers, lights, or CPAC machines, as well as charge assorted electronics. The main shutoff switch prevents the “phantom current draw” that many electronic have, even when off. The battery charge level indicator is accurate and easy to read. The plastic shell is tough enough to hold heavy, lead-acid batteries up to “car battery” size.
This is useful for car campers, vanlifers, hunters & fishers, photographers, ham radio operators, and people preparing for grid-down situations. I love it!
