My truck stopped turning over. After researching, I found this is a common issue with the Dodge Ram1500, some Chryslers, Jeep, etc. In my effort to see if it was the fuel pump relay I discovered that I was lucky enough to have the model with the relay soldered under the TIPM.
I figured I would try this $7 cable to bypass the fuel pump relay. But…I have double the luck that my TIPM is the special model that does not have any fuel pump fuse found. Yes, the model is sitting at a slight 40degree angle with minimal fuses.
If anyone is thinking about trying to DIY (or at least see if the issue is the fuel pump relay or the actual fuel pump itself) then if you are lucky like me and have no fuel pump fuse listed anywhere – don’t waste the money on this $7 cable – rather, just waste the money on a new fuel pump and labor of more than$1k.
But, it still beats a new car payment – so there’s that.

Overall this cable worked well for me and got me out of a jam. My Chrysler Town & Country developed the fuel pump relay problem that is very common on 5th generation T&Cs, and quickly became undriveable (well, unstartable actually). My repair shop said they could fix it for $280, except that the repair kit was not in stock anywhere and wouldn’t be for at least a month. I’m self-employed and HAVE to have this van for work.
I ordered this bypass cable with overnight shipping and installed it while standing in the parking lot at my repair shop because I couldn’t get the van started to drive it home. It took about 15 minutes to install, just because I was triple-checking everything (installing a jumper on the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM – known to most people as the fuse block) could let the smoke out of your vehicle, or at least blow fuses, if done wrong). After installing the bypass cable the car started immediately as if nothing was wrong with the fuel pump relay.
This cable kit does not come with instructions, but you can find them all over the internet. I had the pertinent instructions pulled up on my phone while installing the cable. It was a little tight installing the cable-end fuse holders onto the TIPM, but they do fit. I had to pull out a couple other relays to install the cable, and then push the relays back into place after the cable was installed. (I used positions M25 and M37 to install the cable. A lot of sources say to use M7, but that may leave your fuel pump running when the ignition is in the accessory position, or possibly even when it is off.)
The only reason I gave this cable kit 4 stars instead of 5 is that it comes with a flimsy, pretty much useless plastic fuse puller. I tried to use it to pull the original fuses before installing this kit, and it immediately broke. I then noticed that the TIPM in my van has a fuse puller included, which is much heavier duty and worked to remove the fuses.
It is not recommended to use this type of bypass cable as a permanent fix. I intend to install an external relay as soon as the weather gets warmer but, for now, I have no problems with the operation of my fuel pump. For a total of $10.67 (including $2.99 for overnight shipping), I’m back on the road and very happy with this purchase.

This works exactly as described. Only negative is that I did indeed lose the use of my auto start. On the plus side I have had zero issues starting my truck with the key. I’m using the jumper temporarily until I get my TIPM refurbished.

This product is for diagnostics. That being said, using it to get by for a few days is a pretty common thing to do. But ultimately you will need to install a relay bypass circuit, which is easy or get a new TIPM module. If your fuel relay is failing, it’s likely the last in a long line of weird problems you have had with your vehicle and they are likely misdiagnosed and only have a temp solution. So my recommendation is to just fix the culprit and replace your TIPM.
Here is the list of things my module was causing issues with.
Wiper fluid motor issues
dim headlights
4WD system weirdness(It’s complicated)
Fuel pump.
Engine cooling/Truck heating system issues.
Flickering insturment pannel.
Weird humming in the speakers.
There is documentation about these issues elsewhere online, so I won’t go into details, but unless you know what you’re looking for or care enough to do hours or research, you might not find it. And let’s face it if you make a living replacing car parts. There is a strong temptation to replace a lot of cheap parts for a large profit repeatedly and claim it’s probably being caused by a short in the electrical system but that’s a $5000 fix… when the consumer can replace one expensive(TIPM module $400-$1300) part themselves with no special tools just get one that the company programs before they send it to you…
