I did a V8 swap on my 2009 Canyon years ago and did not realize how I limited my muffler selection by going with a dual in dual out setup. It was easy at the time and I wanted the awesome 3 chamber sound originally. Now I would like quieter and maybe in stock level of quiet, but I was hoping for a free flowing exhaust. Well, that does not exist for cheap anyway.
I had a dynomax super turbo muffler on a car a long time ago and it sounded pretty good so I was looking a turbo mufflers from many different manufactures. The turbo mufflers usually have some sort of a bend in the design. Well, the thrush turbo dual in dual out you can see right through. It’s not straight through. like a few others posted its necked down. But I also noticed the opposite side isn’t free flowing on the way out. The neck down protrudes into the muffler so very little exhaust actually goes straight in and out. It’s caught and has to go through the baffles before it can exit. When you think about most NA exhaust calculations the rule of thumb is 1″ diameter per 100 hp (rule of thumb only). My 4.8 is rated 250 to just under 300 depending on the year. The measurement I got from the neck down still supports that much power.
In all actuality this muffler performs BETTER than the 3 chamber muffler I had before. With the stock motor the 3 chamber muffler apparently did not have enough back pressure. According to my tuning software my original torque curve was a for real curve! With the thrush turbo my torque reaches the previous max only now that max torque hangs on all the way to max rpm!!!
Sound wise, outside idle sounds pretty nice. My 4.8 sounds like a bigger motor. Unfortunately, the tone is so deep drone was a HUGE issue. at 1700 rpm it got up to 90 db ESPECIALLY when going up the slightest incline. 1 you MUST weld or v band this muffler. the standard exhaust clamp or stainless band clamps let too much exhaust gasses leak. 2 you MUST have the tail pipe extend beyond the vehicle in some fashion or another. After figuring that out, I’m starting to get to a stock-ISH exhaust volume on the inside. I am still looking into some sort of sound dampening mat for under the back seat.
Fuel wise, coming from a 3 chamber to this muffler my software pull a bit of fuel. I haven’t had time to do a good MPG average, but I expect it to increase slightly. 1 would even be nice since I appear to be producing the same power.

I did not like the fact that the 2.5 inch dia pipe reduces down to almost 1 5/8″ directly inside the muffler restricting air flow and causing back pressure negating any of the normal gains you would expect from dual exhaust set up with a straight flow thru diameter keeping all components at 2.5″. I will not use this muffler due to its restrictive design.

Ordered to install in a truck where I was planning to build the exhaust myself. Ended up returning because I didn’t build it myself (was tired of laying under the truck working on stuff) and didn’t want to argue with the shop about fitment. Looked like a quality piece and well built. I can’t give it a full 5 stars since I didn;t use it, so I’m knocking a star and saying that it’s for lack of packing material in the box. Wasn’t hurt, but it was loose to bounce around in the box. Good drop during shipping and it could have been damaged, or damaged something else.

Good quality, excellent old school glasspack type sound

I own an exhaust fabrication company these are fantastic mufflers.
Great Sound aluminized steel will resist rust better than the painted welded steel mufflers..

Great sounding muffler installed on a 91 Camaro rs with a 355 small block. Have true duals on the car.
