Without having even 10 hours of operation on this set of ignition coils (three of them for a 70 hp Johnson) the ignition coil on cylinder number two failed. While I was on the lake. And I had to limp it back to the dock. Fortunately, I had a spare ignition coil on a 30-year-old three cylinder 70 hp Johnson which was on my fishing boat which was on the trailer.
The Sierra coil’s have no identification markings or trademark logos on them anywhere. After 40 years as a professional automotive technician, I have found that companies that are so embarrassed of their parts , that they won’t even put identification on them realize that they are selling junk.
I will return all three of these coils and go with CDI or factory original .

CHECK THEM THRU THE BAG BEFORE YOU EVEN OPEN THEM, I did not and 3 out of 4 of these coils were bad right out of the bag. engine ran bad with them and took out the 2 new powerpacks 18-5784 installed with them.
I bought four to have 1 as spare. turns out the one I shelved as a spare fails the ohm test (shows open instead of 275+/-50ohms) on secondary circut while STILL IN sealed double bags! all have same failure. not thinking new parts at fault, started complete troubleshoot of engine system, uncovering failed new parts, however holidays limited my work on boat time, and return/replace window has closed.Such is the peril of having to get stuff online because local shops will not stock expensive parts anymore. now I am out hundreds of $’s I am SO DISAPPOINTED as I have had good luck with Sierra products for decades, but I guess Quality Control has been reduced to “acceptable # of failures out the door”

Perfect fit, looks better quality than the OEM coil that was on the outboard prior to replacement. I took the boat out today and with the new coils the boat ran better with no hesitation. I removed the spark plugs after the trip and they were clean, looked brand new to tell the truth. It has been a while since the plugs looked that good after a trip. So in short this product works and I wouldn’t hesitate buying them again in the future.

Solved my problem..I have a 1985 115 Johnson. I had lose of power to the point i could not get up on plane. I I have actually been carrying a spare on the boat since.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT buy this offer! The high quality German coil that is pictured is not what you receive.
I opened the package and was immediately dissapointed, the coil looked really cheap and generic with a little paper tag that said “made in taiwan”.
I installed anyway – no change, turns out I had a blown head gasket, replaced that – no change.
After a pile of time and frustration I thought what the heck, I’ll put the old coils back in and BANG, ran like a top!
The last thing you need when troubleshooting engine problems is lowest bidder made crap from a bait and switch seller.

caution, to install tighten up the grounded side and “snug” up the other side otherwise the coil will crack one of its ears due to its curved shape…also sierra coil doesn’t have any markings like the one pictured, generic.
