We had picked up some antique chairs at a thrift shop, figuring we would have to replace both the seat cushion cover (easy!) and the leather backing (difficult) in order to have them usable as spares for our craftsman dining table. Having a family dinner scheduled and time being limited, I decided to take a chance and try sprucing up the leather first.
The kit arrived as scheduled and included a substantial tub of the dye, some small application pads, & other light accessories. I followed the simple directions for the application, which was amazingly quick and easy to do. I think I was done with all four chairs in a single morning, including the touch up of the wood, so this is not at all a difficult process.
Positives: Worked very well. Don’t expect it to fill in actual damage to the leather; this is a dye, not a filler, but the dye went on well and creates a beautiful finish. We will see how long this lasts, but even if it has to be reapplied at some point down the road, this was far quicker, easier, and much less expensive than the complete replacement of the leather that I anticipated for these chairs.
Negatives: The included application pads are small and light, but they’re also not at all necessary. Just use some disposable shop towels for large areas & the included brush for areas close to the wood that need more care in application. A standard artist’s paint brush would work as easily, too.
Questionable: The instructions reference following up with the leather conditioner, but no leather conditioner is included in this package. I suggest buying a separate conditioner to follow up. The pictures here are before conditioning, since I wanted to show what this kit actually accomplished. I imagine a conditioner will make the leather a bit more supple and probably extend the life & appearance of the newly dyed leather.
RECOMMENDED.

I recently tried the Leather Recoloring Balm and Repair Kit, and I am thoroughly impressed. The balm was incredibly easy to use, thanks to the included starter tool kit with sponges and a brush pen. I used it to restore my old leather couch and was amazed by the results—it effectively covered cracks, scuffs, and scratches, leaving the leather looking new and vibrant. The drying time was quick, taking only about 15 minutes to air dry. The color has held up well over time and hasn’t faded or become sticky. The large 8oz package is well-designed and ensures the product arrives safely. I love that it works on a wide range of leather items, from furniture to shoes. Highly recommended for anyone looking to breathe new life into their leather goods!

Super happy, we’ve only applied so far. Waiting for it to dry. But the results are incredible. Saves a lot of money buying a new couch!

This is a great product. I used it to re-color 2 red leather poufs. It covered in a single coat and I have 1/4 jar left over. The color is not as flourescent at it appears online. There is no color transfer after it dries (outside) for 3 hrs and it buffs up to a nice satin sheen. Ottoman on left is before, right is after.

I know my before and after pics aren’t the best but I figured any picture is helpful when you’re sifting through product reviews.
Relevant background: My car is a 2006 with full leather interior (so I have not tried this product on vinyl) that i’ve owned since 2017 and all this time, I thought my interior was originally dark grey. Well, when my cat peed on me and my drivers seat and cleaning it notably faded part of the seat, I went looking for a color matched leather recoloring product and found out that there IS NO grey leather in my model and year, it was just faded to grey by the time I got it in 2017. So clearly I was working with pretty badly faded leather when I applied this balm.
Amount used: I used it on several types of leather finishes as you can see in my car, some were more absorbent than others. I did all 4 doors, front and back of all my seats, headrests, my leather dash and glove compartment, and a handful of other leather trim pieces. Some of these parts I did two coats on as some were more faded than others. I did the entire drivers seat, front passenger seat, center console, 3 of the doors, and a few other spots here and there twice. The rest I did once. This used up almost exactly the amount in one container. Perfect amount for a car with an absurd amount of leather and a ton of fading.
Application method: I tested several application methods with different tools and motions and the one that produced the best, darkest and most even coloring was using the yellow round sponge that comes with it in a buffing motion while applying light pressure, kind of massaging it into the leather. This was true for all the different leather styles in my car. For spots that had damage (scrapes, tears, extra deep wrinkles), it worked best to use the edge of the yellow sponge to press it into the indented area then rub it in around the area without rubbing over top of the damage. It’s not a filler and if I were to do it properly, I’d have used a filler, but I just wanted to diminish the appearance of my damaged spots and this was effective for that.
Results: after finishing, it looked great but became very matte and felt dry to the touch after 2-3 days. I used a wax and solvent based leather conditioner (I make it myself but Montana pitch blend is very similar to what I made and used) over top to put the moisture back in the leather and provide a light sealant, as it’s obvious the factory sealant wore off like a decade ago. After applying that, it looks and feels great and is holding up! I would plan on using a conditioner like this a few days after the balm. Another thing I noticed before I used the conditioner was that, while it didn’t transfer to my clothes even in the rain, black did come off onto my cloth when I used a leather cleaner on it 5 days after applying. This is part of the reason I decided a conditioner with beeswax would be the best option. Since applying that, the black has not come off at all when cleaning.
Down time: i found that 8 hours was enough for it to completely dry/absorb and be impervious to rain and not transfer onto clothes or skin. I did not check it any sooner than 8 hours, as I did each round of application at night when I was done driving for the day and checked it when I got up, so it’s possible that it could be good to go in less than 8 hours. I did notice color changes over the course of the 3 days after each application. The pieces that were in the best condition became more even, any sponge marks I left behind melted away. The pieces that were most damaged became less even, as the driest parts absorbed more of the colorant and became lighter than other parts. I would definitely recommend waiting at least 3 days before applying a second layer so that you can really tell what you’re working with. Then, again, would recommend waiting at least 3 days before cleaning the leather or applying a conditioner or sealant, because the color changes indicate that it’s not fully absorbed and at its final state until 3 days have passed.
All in all, I am very happy with this product and my car looks amazing!

I found this product terrific. I rented an apartment furnished I own furnished, and I included a dark leather sofa which was several years old but in reasonably good shape cosmetically. It was dark red. I foolishly allowed a tenant with a cat to rent it and after one year when the tenant moved out I was sick to see that the cat had made hundreds of claw marks all over the sofa, particularly in the lower part where the cat could claw from the floor. I thought it was dump time for the sofa, but on a chance I bought a jar of this stuff. When I applied it, I realized the color was too light, so again, on a chance, I bought a jar of the black and mixed them, about 1/8 jar of black to the entire jar of red. The result is astonishing. The stuff goes on easily and covers beautifully. I used the enclosed brush, put in on heavily, and then before a section dried I smoothed it out with the included sponge. Now in order to see any cat marks you have put your face right next to the area injured. From a normal distance, the sofa looks frankly new and the blending of the colors was great also. Finally, I liked the fact that it is water soluble which makes for much easier clean up. Highly recommended.

After it dried I noticed it had a couple of drops on the nylon. I cannot remove them…does anyone have any idea of what would remove them.

I have a very special leather chair. Didn’t want something new. Tried this and what a great job. And so easy. It’s been several months and is holding up well. Would do it again. I know it looks a little worn, but the color is very even and not wearing off.
