The Howlin’ Cowboy –
did the job of fixing the problem

Bought for a 1996 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder. I only had to buy one too. If you have the two coil setup unplug one and drive the truck then plug it in and unplug the other one. If the truck runs good on one and not the other just replace the one that it was running poorly on. Mine was very noticeable and actually would hardly run on the bad one. Plugged this in and good to go. Anyone one with a 7mm socket can replace it as well

The Howlin’ Cowboy –
We have a 1997 Mercury Tracer with 155,000 miles on it on loan from a friend. My wife wants to buy this as a run-around-town beater car, so we’re testing it out. When we got it it was running rough, so I plugged in my ScanTool 423001 ElmScan 5 Compact OBD-II Scan Tool and OBDwiz Diagnostic Software and got back the code saying the third cylinder was missing.
I pulled the plugs and sure enough, #3 was black and wet. I tested compression on all 4 cylinders and found them all good at right around 150 psi with a dry test, so I knew the engine was in good shape. I then checked the spark coming from the wires and #3 was dead. I swapped wires to make sure it wasn’t the wire, and still #3 had no spark. So I knew it was probably the coil. Hopped on Amazon and found a bunch of coils for $50-plus before I noticed this one at a great price and shipping Prime. No reviews, and no pic, but it said it would fit the ’97 Mercury, so I ordered it next day.
It arrived quick the next day, and I went ahead and installed it. After firing up the engine, it continued running rough on 3 cylinders, and heavy smoke came out the tailpipe. After a minute or so, the smoke cleared up from all the buildup in the cylinder, but it still was missing intermittently for a while. I took it for a few mile spin, and by the time I got home the engine was running smooth.
Been driving it a couple days now, and still running like a champ, so this coil did the trick! This seems to be a good coil, especially for the 32 bucks I paid including shipping. With a tight manual transmission and from reviews on the net it looks like this car will go 200k miles+ no problem, so for the $300 asking price on the car, can’t beat that!

With the guidance of a Youtube video I was able to locate and replace the defective Ignition coil. This unit fixed the missing spark to #1 cylinder and the truck runs great again!

Bought 2 of these for my 98 2.5 ranger and they work great. I have not experienced any issues with them. Price on amazon is a lot cheaper than the dealer and the local autoparts so I am happy.

Purchased part for 96 Ranger with dual plug distributor less ignition installed roughly 3 months ago and no misfire so far, perfect fit, practically identical to the NGK coil packs I previously purchased but at over half the cost value for money definitely only difference is NGK pack weights more and seems more dense still good quality by far
