If you have a rechargeable Spectre filter, its obviously a must have. And for customers that follow the oiling instructions, both are great products as a whole. K&N quality, much more affordable. If you don’t over oil it, you won’t give your car/truck problems. Clean, let sit in sun for at least an hour(6-8 hours best in my opinion) oil filter properly…very easy, don’t saturate the filter, only coat. Then let sit in sun for at least 2 hours(overnight best) Consistent pattern throughout the motion…1 spray/ inch or two, held at a distance of 4-5 inches. Just be smart, it’s not that hard. You over-oil…you might get a code. If you do, remove MAF sensor and clean with appropriate solvent. CRC mass air flow cleaner/throttle body cleaner(if you have a TBI fuel injection system) is the best in my opinion. Return on investment after just two intervals, compared to the 4-6 a k&n gets you and the obvious number of 1 that a premium paper filter gets you. Stock filters for daily drivers are better in my opinion overall but if you have a fun weekend car with other mods, it’s a nice product.

This kit worked but not as good as the K&N brand cleaner and oil. Still a good product but will definitely get the K&N next time.

The only reason to buy this is to recharge the oil based filter you already have. If you don’t have one, there’s no reason to buy it.
That being said, it’s a good product. It’s not hard to use and the directions are pretty clear. You do need to look up the amount of oil to use on the filter – which you can find by googling the spectre performance website.
Follow the directions, let the oil dry for at least a few hours and put it in. Over oiling it will kill your MAF sensor.

First time I’ve actually tried to clean my filter using this system, and the results are good the only thing is the spay on the oil bottle is is defective,oil is drifting on my hand after I sprayed and wasted most of it had to buy another spray bottle.

Definitely going to have this cleaner for awhile. Get a lot for the price. Be sure to wear gloves and spray on a well ventilated area. Warning labels are self explanatory as to why.

When I originally ordered it, the “precision oiling” bottle that was supposed to help you get exactly the right amount of oil was not a clear bottle and had no graduations. I called Spectre and the very admitted that they had sent out some that way and sent me out a new bottle right away and this one is very clear and nicely graduated. I think it is pretty comical and it says a lot about the company because they handled it so well. Thank you Spectre, it is a good product. It did a great job of cleaning a year’s worth of goo off of the filter.

This is the “charger” kit for your new Spectre Performance Air Filter. All you have to do is pull the filter out of the housing, close the housing, then close the hood. Now DO NOT drive the vehicle until you re-install the air filter later or if you must drive, temporarily install a “backup filter”. I use a Wix air filter(about $15-20 at O’reilly’s Auto Parts) overnight while my sport filter is drying. The Wix air filter is just a stock, normal air filter but that beats driving without an air filter! Now spray the cleaner included in the packet onto the air filter’s both sides. Wait a while and then rinse it off/out, both sides with hot water. Now shake off the excess water. Now place the air filter onto a dry bath towel and let it air dry for at least 6 hours at room temperature(about 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit). DO NOT BLOW DRY. DO NOT INSTALL IT YET. AIR DRY ONLY! Once the air filter is dry, use the “oil spray” included in the packet to LIGHTLY spray down the air filter on both sides. DO NOT OVERSPRAY. Now open your vehicle’s hood, open the air filter housing, pull out the “backup filter”, then install the freshly cleaned and oiled Spectre Performance Air Filter. Put the “backup filter” away until the next time the packet says to clean and oil the Spectre air filter. I recommend covering the “backup filter” with something like a plastic bag or the box that you got it in to prevent dust and bugs getting to it. With this product, you never have to replace your air filter which saves lots of money over the years. Enjoy the new power of your vehicle and the savings in your bank account(s)!
