Works great. When i replaced this it was pretty much my first time taking a wheel off of a car, so very little experience going into the work. It wasn’t easy, but I did all the work with just a few tools and the result was i fixed my own check engine light. The big difference is seems to be that this filler neck is painted and should’nt won’t rust like the one it replaced. I reused the old valve that goes at the top of the neck.
Great product that saved me alot of money versus paying a mechanic. Nobody is ever never going to see it, but especially compared to the old rusty steel pipe it replaced, this Spectra filler neck is a beauty.

First off, let me just say, this product is so worth the money if you need it. It comes with the shut-off valve (a surprise to me) and the silicone hoses that connect the valve to the evap hoses.
On to 98 fozz specific details to help people.
You have to cut the bracket that holds the evap hoses to the neck. This will make installation so much easier. I also removed the evap lines from the hoses to make installing them easier, but you don’t need to. Start by removing the bolt that holds the neck to the chassis and holds the evap lines (behind the wheel). Then remove the neck from the tank’s hose under the car. The neck comes off with 3 screws near the gas cap, which then you should be able to remove the evap hoses from the shut-off valve and pull out the old neck. You can then go back under the car, remove the evap hoses attached near where the neck was removed from the hose. I labeled the left and right hoses with tape so i could connect it correctly. After the hoses are removed the evap hoses come out with no effort (there’s a little plastic piece that holds it in place, don’t be like me and yank at it expecting it to flap upwards, there’s a clip that you push down and the flap will come down… i broke mine, no biggie). Easiest thing to do now i put the new evap lines in and connect them to the hoses under the car. Then the hard part, putting the neck into the hose again. I brought the neck into the wheel well and rotated it to fit into the hose first (after 20 minutes of trying with the neck connected to the gas cap… not smart). After the neck is connected to the hose i rotated it and connected it to the gas cap section. This takes some persuading but should be relatively easy. Then tighten that hose and finally connect the evap lines to the shut-off valve with the hoses that should be attached to the shut-off valve. The braket you cut should be exactly where you would normally bolt the neck to the chassis. I didnt bother trying to figure out how to bolt it back in, just left it as it seemed sturdy enough.
Good luck!

Serious warning do not buy this product, the fit is terrible and you will have to retro fit it in order to make it work. After I installed this part I can barely get gas into my car. I’ve looked it over dozens of times. No kinks or bends, all tubes going to the original locations but for whatever reason gas barely flows down it extremely disappointed they should not be able to legally sell these.

It fit in the tight spot just like the rusted out one. No problems at 6 months.

Nearly a perfect fit. The fuel shut of pipes leading to the top of the filler neck stop you from mounting perfectly. I cut the pipes from the filler neck and attached separately. Worked great, super easy
The description notes the rubber hoses and fuel shut-off valve are not included. They are – do not buy separately or you’ll have to return them.
Solved CEL codes for small and very small evap leak.

Went on easily and came with all requisite nuts and bolts. Subarus have an issue with the filler pipe guard holding wet mud and filth against the pipe and rusting it out. I removed my guard and coated the spectral with plasticized rocker guard. Only complaint was the screws that held the top filler flange. They are prone to rust. The ones that came with the pipe were phillips. I replaced them with the stock Subaru hex head bolts. Just in case I have to do this again in ten years!

Not a direct replacement by any means. Close, sort of. A good two inches off. It’s an old car, so I hammered and sawed off tabs and made it work, but I’m disappointed.

When I buy parts, I look at several different sites to cross reference the part # for my car to be sure I’m buying the correct part. This was the part # several places had for it, so I ordered. After taking out the old filler neck, and comparing the 2 parts, I noticed this part has the 2 vent tubes welded to the bracket. The OEM has a separate bracket for those tubes. This makes a big difference since the vent tubes have to be run through the frame in order to connect to the rubber hoses coming from the tank. If you get a part like mine your gonna have to cut the bracket to remove those vent tubes. Which brings up another issue. The bracket that needs cutting it the bracket your supposed to put one of the mounting screws in. The next issue was the large fuel tube is approx a 1/2″ longer than OEM. Where this comes into play is with fitment. It’s a very tight squeeze from the fuel tank inlet hose to the gas filler opening in the fender. When installing, I found it easier to fit the top first, then work the rubber hose coming from the tank. Overall, the part worked, but with some modifications. Also, some were reporting they didn’t have the valve. That they had to buy it separate. Mine came with the valve, and fresh rubber hoses attached.
It’s not an easy job. I gave this a 4 star review due for fitment issues, but it is a close replacement to the OEM part for my 2001 Forester S.
