I bought this to replace a 12v plug that melted on my Wagan cooler, which I use in my vehicle.

Despite the description saying this is a 12amp plug, this plug comes with a 2amp fuse. I didn’t realize that the Wagan draws, at times, 3.5amp – so the fuse ultimately blew – that’s my fault.

However, for more than an hour, before the fuse blew, this plug would not stay put inside my 3-socket 12v adapter. This happened even when the cooler was off. No matter how I tried to insert it, or which socket it went into, with just a little movement (like a bump in the road) the plug would start backing out of the socket then lose connection completely. As I’ve used the 3-socket adapter for many years without issues, I think the problem is this plug.

I considered searching for a replacement (higher amp) fuse, but this plug uses a less common size. That, and the problem with the plug backing out, led me to just buy a different plug – which has worked flawlessly.

It looks like a good product for the price. The material is okay, and actually fit for what I wanna use it for, until I found the built-in fuse is AGC 2 AMP.
It blows right away! But changed to 15 AMP AGC fuse solve the problem (I use it for Tire inflator which have a peak 12 AMP and rated 5 AMP continuous).
SO, if you wanna use it for more than 2 AMP current, either buy another product, or prepare another AGC fuse with a proper rating (AGC max is 30 AMP I believe).
Looking to the material used, I think it can handle a peak 30 AMP and continuous 10 AMP.
But be careful also not to exceed your Cigarette lighter AMP rating. My car cigarette lighter is rated only 10 AMP. So to be safe do not go higher than that, otherwise you are gonna damage your car Fuse.

I got this to replace a cigarette plug I was using for a video monitor in my truck. I scavenged the first one from some long forgotten car something I don’t have anymore. Predictably, because I was trying to cheap out with what I had, it ended up being a total p.o.s. that kept blowing the fuse. It was the cheap kind you see that come with the cheapest of 12v whatever car accessory, with cheap plastic construction and a screw on top that broke the first time I tried checking its fuse. So I broke down and spent a whole $4 for one of these. The plastic is still plastic, but seems to be thicker and the body shape and design are better constructed. It’s a better plug with thicker gauge wire. And the light is a nice plus so you’ll know it’s getting power. The cord could be longer and I wasn’t able to use the installed connections, but that was easy enough for me to deal with. If I need another I’d probably order a different one with a longer cord, but I knew what I was buying and that I didn’t need much. At any rate, it fits snugly into the socket and it works like it’s supposed to, without blowing the fuse So I’m a happy enough guy.

While the plastic and exterior construction is nice, what’s the use of the 16 gauge cables if the fuse is merely 2A? Leave alone compressors and such that plug into the cigarette lighter port, a lot of USB phone chargers pull more than 2.4A while charging. Mine blew pretty much instantly with a phone charger.

To make things worse, it does NOT use a standard 1-1/4″ fuse. I believe it’s around 30mm. Putting in one of the 1 1/4″ fuses makes the top not close down and the 12V plug pops out of the port on the car when you try to shove it in.

I ended up going to 2 Home Depots, 1 Radioshack and an O’Reilly Auto Parts store and none of them in this are had the right size – either it was 1 1/4″ or it was half that size (which meant no contact was made). The O’Reilly parts’ store guy finally pulled a fuse out of a different brand’s 12V plug that was a similar size (and rated at 15A). That was finally what worked. If I’d know this so-called “heavy duty” lighter plug came with such a crappy fuse, I would have saved myself the pain of driving around 3 hours to fix this and bought something else.

No reason why Amazon should have let something like a fuse rating not influence what they sell.

This is a fine piece of equipment. Easy to use, simple to install, and fused! I’ve used several others in the past that would heat up or get stuck in the socket or simply didn’t work after a day or two due to cheap, 20AWG wiring. This works well and I will surely be buying more in the future as my car is filled with 12V plugs.

(NOT RECOMMENDED!) I personally disassembled to product to see if it suited my needs and was durable enough to last. Obviously, once you remove a screw or piece of ANY product you have purchased it an cannot return it. HOWEVER, having done this I can tell you that it is a quality product. I even removed the small green LED and replaced it with a blue LED to match my car’s interior.

When I purchased this item, I read the reviews first. Someone mentioned that you may change the fuse from 2A to 15A and that is exactly what I did. The product was used to repair a portable compressor for car tires and inflatables. The original product had a plug that was cheaply made and broke, but the compressor itself was good. The reasons this product is excellent: (1) positive and negative with red and black wires, (2) the tip is made of metal or aluminum therefore the housing stays tightly in place and the screw is less likely to get stripped, (3) it has a green LED indicator, (4) the housing is made of strong plastic, (5) the fit was nice and snug when placed in the cigarette lighter, and (6) the wire crimps help for attachment. There is a YouTube video called “How to Wire a Car Cigarette Lighter Plug” which is helpful to understand the positive and negative wire placements within this type of product. Thank you Roadpro and Amazon!

I have a tire pump that plugs into the cigarette lighter and the adapter needed replacing. I didn’t notice that this adapter only comes with a 2A fuse. I soldered up my new adapter and nothing happened when I turned on the air pump. I blew the 2A fuse. I didn’t know if I wired it wrong or the fuse on the air pump or car had blown. Well the little 2A blew. I read here that other have upgraded the fuse to larger sizes, so I put a 20A in. I didn’t have any 15A fuses to use, but this is the size I will buy for backups. My air pump has a fuse and the car has a fuse for this cigarette lighter, so I didn’t think putting a 20A in would hurt anything. the defective adapter that I was replacing on the pump didn’t even have a fuse at all. We’ll see how it holds up. Good for now.

This adapter replaced an older adapter that came with my 12V portable tool, this adapter came in handy to quickly repair my cord and continue working. I use it almost daily constantly and have dropped it and stepped on it etc. and it still in good shape. I did however solder and shrink wrap mine to my tool cord because i expected to use it for work outdoors and indoors. In my opinion it’s well built and worth the money i paid. I will buy a couple more to have as extras.
