After a camping trip that encountered significant rain and placing wet camping gear in the various storage compartments, my Rivian’s cabin started to smell like a swamp. I cleaned and dried everything out and the smell didn’t completely go away. It turns out, the cabin air filter must’ve absorbed the musky smell from the gear that was in the frunk and it was now just spreading it into the cabin via the ventilation.
I picked this filter up since it boasted HEPA capabilities – I can’t really test that claim but after I dropped the filter in and turned on the AC, I was immediately hit with clean fresh smelling air. That’s all that mattered in my book!
As far as installation goes, you do have to remove the plastic panel above the frunk to get to the filter location, but it’s just held on by a few automotive snap fasteners. Be firm but gentle when you pull them straight up so as not to break any of them. The filter then slides forward to come out, the new one slides back to go in, the panel goes back on top and Bob’s your uncle.
Based on my usage experience, a yearly change is sufficient, unless you end up leaving a bunch of wet camping gear in the truck! Plan to replace it once a year and keep one as a spare for those situations that call for it.

It’s extremely rare that a replacement filter that’s not OEM is actually nicer than the original you’re pulling out of the car. This is one of those instances. This filter has good dense pleating, which we checked and doesn’t impact air flow inside the car. The charcoal on the back is an addition that the OEM doesn’t have, as well as this one has a foam seal around the edges which seals very nicely. Installation took a few minutes with zero tools, and we have not noticed any differences from using the original. Overall a great filter and a perfect fit for the Rivian.

We replaced our cabin air filter on our R1T after 6+ months, and this replacement just renewed the air quality in our car. Made to a precise size, fits perfectly well in our R1T. The pleats are tight, and I am hoping it catches more dust than the original one. Should last for at least 5-6 months. Just follow the user manual (or watch some Youtube videos). Make sure you are installing in the right direction. Over a period of time, it should pay you back with a much better air quality for a long time. Overall, the air feels fresher and unblocked.
