Bought these for a 2012 Kia Sorento (thankfully it hasn’t caught fire yet) and installed them in a matter of minutes. Very simple installation. The difference between these and the old ones was night and day. These take the hatch up with ease and allow it to be fully open. I needed to push the hatch up with the old ones. These are so strong that I have to make sure I’m not in the path of the hatch going up! Because they are so strong they also require a little bit of muscle to close. Great product a great price.

  4. Greener

Direct fit 2011 Sorento. Works as expected. Installed in just 3-5 mins, just watch out for the trunk hatch coming down at you after you remove 1 of the pistons.

Worked perfectly on my 2-12 Kia Sorento SX. Easy to instal.

Works for 2012 Kia Sorento SX and likely works for other non-powered rear liftgates.

IMPORTANT – Do not remove the bolts from the vehicle adapter plates! There are two plates on each side, secured to the door / vehicle with two bolts. LEAVE THEM ALONE. This entire replacement can be done without removing those.

Entire replacement should take under 10 min. – see here for how I did it. You only need your parts and a flathead screwdriver – leave your wrenches and or socket sets out of it:

    1. Prop up rear liftgate with step ladder / whatever
    2. Pick a side to start with.
    3. Get a flat head screwdriver
    4. Find the metal band that is at either end of the hydraulic rod. It secures the connector to the adapter.
    5. There is a slot where you can fit the flat head under the band. Do so, lift up. The band should give little to no resistance.
    6. Slide the band out of the connector toward the end of the rod and remove it
    7. Removing this band unlocks the connector from the adapter plate. Gently pull it off / put your flat head between the rod connector and the adapter and gently pry the rod end off.
    8. Repeat as necessary for other end of rod.
    9. You should now have the rod removed, and both adapter plates should have a ball end exposed, and remain bolted to the car and door
    10. Take your replacement rod out.
    11. DO NOT TAKE OUT THE METAL BAND
    12. Simply pop the top end onto the adapter ball at the vehicle side
    13. Rotate the door end of the rod gently clockwise until the receiver opening aligns with the ball adapter on the door. Your flathead can provide some additional leverage for this.
    14. Pop this end onto the door adapter ball.
    15. One side done!
    16. Repeat steps on opposite side.
    17. Both struts replaced and now your door stays up as it should!

Important to note – even if 1 rod fails, replace both. You want a matching set.

  8. Arturo S

    Awesome replacement. Easy to install.

I thought everything was great with this product from installation to quality. Only thing I will say and it’s not because I’m being a jerk, I just want my review to be informative. Im 5’9 and Inhave a KIA Sorento 2014. It seems like these lift gate supports extend a half inch to an inch less than the original KIA manufactured lifts I replaced. Now I hit the very top of my head each time I go to the trunk. Crazy how that itty bit of an half inch changed a lot. Other than that, they are great.

  10. LP535

2011 Sorento. Went by the the dealership and they wanted $150 EACH! $300 are they crazy! I went home found these ordered them Friday, they delivered them Sunday at 4:15, I opened the box and they were both on my car by 4:20 in less than 5 minutes. $26 for TWO! DEAL! Very easy! Pry up the metal clips off on each end and the new shock have the clips and snap back on.
