Remove the nut, apply this over the broken one, don’t have to remove the broken one. Tight space but does the job.

BMW sells their repair part for $120, I highly recommend this PART!! Very easy to install. The nice thing about this part is the thin profile. The most difficult thing of replacing this part is REMOVING the old broken one, with this being so slim you can bolt it right on top the broken plastic part and its thin enough the nut reaches the stud to screw it on. Trust me, removing the old broken piece is a !@$%!, it’s nearly impossible with what little space you have to maneuver. I tried and I finally decided to leave it on because there was no way I could get it out, so YES this is the part to buy to fix your DREADED E-Brake cable rattle!
