  1. Once Bitten

This is a genuine OEM Rancilio Portafilter head gasket and will solve the problem of water leaking around the portafilter during a pull (NOT caused by a dirty brew head!)
The gasket on my 2012 Silvia had hardened over time because of the repeated heating and cooling cycles and it was obvious it had served its time.
While I had the machine down for the installation of the gasket, I gave the head a good cleaning and now Silvia is once again making fine shots.

  2. Carmaniac

I purchased a gasket and installed it in October 2017. That broken up gasket is that same gasket in February 2021. Rock solid, leaking, just horrible.

I installed this on a Rancilio Sylvia.

It worked great and lasted very long, but you really should replace it once per year.

I bought another rubber gasket as a spare, but am trying out the silicon gasket this go. So far, the green silicon gasket is great. Easy to install and quite soft.

Calendar alarm set to change in a year this time… 4 years is 3 years too much…

  3. Carmaniac

Used a small screw driver to get old out. While doing this I put the new seal in warm water. Helps makes it easier to install. Went in without a hitch.

  4. OnIsle

Just dig out the old one. I used an ice pick. Make sure the seat is clean and push the new one in. If the basket won’t catch, I filed a bit off the leading edge of the basket’s ears so it would catch, and push the gasket in with a simple twist of the handle.

  5. Scott T. Messenger

This is the first time I changed the gasket after 6 years of use. Upgrading my basket to a VST started to show some leaks. I also had the bad habit to keep the portafilter engaged with the previous shot in the machine… So the old one was hard an no longer soft enough to seal the basket. I ordered 2 parts so I will have a spare one for when required.

  6. Bellalily

I didn’t realize how badly deteriorated my old gasket was until I put this new one in. My Rancilio seems like new, even though it’s 15 years old! Easy to put the new one in, but difficult to get the old one out if you’ve left it for as long as I did.

  7. Bruce R.

Great way to restore seal on my Silvia. Easy to use, and much better than the hard old thing that was in there. I will be replacing mine more regularly now that I know how easy and economical it is to keep my head screwed on tight…

  8. Peter Swartz

This worked great on my 20+ year old Silvia (Early Generation Silvia v1). The old gasket was a bit hard to remove, but an ice pick worked great to get it started. It came out in multiple pieces. After a good cleaning, the new one slipped right on. The Portafilter helped seat it more firmly. I can now turn the Portafilter further than before, and more importantly, no leaks.

  9. Robert

Before purchasing this purported “Genuine OEM PART, Rancilio Silvia Group Head Gasket” I checked with the supplier from whom I purchased my Rancilio Silvia over 10 years ago as well as reading many reviews online. I removed the old gasket, thoroughly cleaned the groove which holds the gasket. The replacement gasket was VERY difficult to insert in the groove, it seems a bit too large. Finally after 15 min of pushing as hard as possible to seat the gasket in, I put the filter back on and turned the machine right side up. It took at least 10 tries of pushing very hard before finally being able to insert the portofilter up AND is still very difficult to turn it to the right to seal it before dispensing the espresso. Have used it 10 times now and the heat and repeated turning of the portofilter has not improved the difficulty in using the portofilter with the new gasket. Yes, changing the gasket stopped water dripping from the portofilter – but it is a pain now struggling just to turn the portofilter. NOTE: the old gasket looked like it had a groove on the side facing down, contacting the portofilter. The new gasket is flat on both sides, no groove. But the suppliers all said the replacement gasket was for all Rancilio Silvia machines regardless of age or model.
Upgrading my review to 4 stars. After using the new gasket for 3-4 weeks it’s getting a little easier to insert and turn the portofilter. Most importantly, no more water drips and getting great crema again.
