My family had the car since new. I think this works basically the same as when it was new. It might be a tiny bit harder to close, but that just means it won’t fall on you! It doesn’t pop up a lot when you open it, but I don’t think the car ever did that when it was new. Yes there are cheaper options, but I chose to go with a known brand and am happy with it.
Do note that this is no longer made in USA. It was a disappointment but overall quality still seems good. Installed March 2022. We’ll see how it holds up.

I had tried some other struts on Amazon and found that they were too long to work on my Lexus. Once you remove the old struts, installation time for these struts is less than 1 minute each. You just cannot beat that. The mounting holes were perfectly lined up making the job so easy. Yes, these are a bit more expensive, but worth the difference.

Took only a few minutes to install the struts. I added some grease to the posts as suggested by some other reviewers. The week before I ordered a less expensive set of trunk struts from Amazon, and they did not work at all. They were slightly longer then needed, and there were no instructions and the “contact us” form on their web site did not work. My suggestion is to go with the Strong Arm struts and save yourself potential problems. The struts I removed from my 2002 LS430 would pop the trunk up about an inch, then you had to lift it about a foot before the struts would finish the job. These new struts pop up the trunk about 3 inches, but not up all the way (like I was hoping). That is the only reason I gave it a 4.

Great part–installed both sides of trunk in 5 minutes: not a mechanic and had never done it before.
You will need a narrow head standard srewdriver as the only tool. you also need something like a stick or broom to hold trunk open and fully extended will you install. I installed these lifts on a 2002 Lexus LS430
One side at time use the screwdriver to insert into the old lift ball u clip in the middle of the ball on each end of the lift (looks like a small plastic belt that is bart of the ball) just pry it up and the clip will come off and the lift will be free on that end (don’t worry about damageing the old part, it will be junk anyway). do both ends the same and get rid of old lift. put new lift on by pressing with your hand on the end ball joint. install the bottom first then do the top (silver shaft is bottom and black part is the top). Rotate shaft with your hand is Ok if you need to position it to install into ball bolt –when lift is clicked into place on both ends –pull on it firmly to make sure it is in place correctly and holds. watch a video seller has on utube to install trunk lid struts
The Man Behind the Curtain –
These work better than the factory struts ever did on my ’04 LS430, at a fraction of the price of the factory parts.
They are skinnier, but they are plenty strong.
When you install these, make sure you prop the trunk up properly. I used a 2×4 that I had lying around. The company provides pretty good instructions.
One thing you might want to do that isn’t mentioned in the instructions is clean off the original ball-ends on the trunk lid, then lightly grease the ball-ends and the corresponding sockets on the struts. I used some thick non-black stuff that I had hanging around. It only takes a moment and parts usually like to be lubed. When the Lexus dealer changed these a long time ago, their hack mechanic didn’t bother to clean or grease the ends. The resulted in the balls being galled a little by the metal to metal contact. Not a big deal, but seriously take an extra couple of minutes and do it right.

I bought a cheaper set before these – but had to return those as the struts were 1/4″ too long. This set is the one you want for your LS430 – ten minute install for both – trunk lid lifts with light pressure – closing is EZ.

Safety
For safety I had someone hold the trunk up and extra measures were taken for passive trunk hold (like a chair secured to hold trunk open)
Function
They work perfectly out of the box. I didn’t have to change length since they were already aligned for my car
Of course they require slight lift to open the trunk but they are better than my old originals.

I got these to replace the worn out trunk struts on my 2001 Lexus LS430. Before replacement, the trunk lid was very heavy to open and would then slam shut. I replaced the old struts with these Strong Arm struts and now the trunk opens and closes like factory new. These were easy to install by simply popping loose the retainer clips on the ball/socket connections and then pushing the new ones on; the hardest part was finding a flat blade screwdriver with a blade narrow enough to do the job. I decided on these over others because of my perception that Strong Arm is a more reputable brand and their products would outlast less expensive no-name brands. I guess time will tell on that, but for now I’m very happy with them.
