Since the diameter is slightly smaller, the antenna doesn’t fit tightly into the housing. Without close contact between the antenna and housing the radio won’t work. Additionally, it will not retract fully downward into the housing. Small variances from factory original make this product a failure – don’t buy.

It works but only after I glued the bottom section to the plastic base not fully extended. If you let it extend fully it looses connection with the base. Also it does not fully retract. It sticks up about 5 inches when the radio turns off. It will have to work until I get something better and the kids or the wind breaks it because it is so flimsy when extended and stays sticking out when parked.

Yes I know it sounds weird to say it’s too tall, but the oem antenna is 31 inches and this antenna is 39 inches. While the antenna is rising, the radio gains signal and then loses it when the antenna gets to its full length. Being that it’s too long, the radio doesn’t pick up the right frequencies and none of the stations work.

Does it fit afirst gen Toyota Sequoia?… Not straight out the box, but you can make it work. 3 reasons why this got 3 stars only despite it working for me.
1) I went through the trouble of removing the old antenna cord from the motor in 90 degree weather, reinstalled the motor and the fender liner, opened the box with this antenna, went to feed it in and… It didn’t go all the way in… Bummer 👎 I tried feeding it 2 to 3 times but still stuck out 4-5 inches.
2) Upon fitment issues and considering a return, I began to search for a replacement and I found this is a very genetic part available from other sellers for 13 dollars just look for the oem part number you will see options identical to this claiming to be compatible with the oem part number for almost 10 dollars less.
3) I am currently on a budget and little strained on time so i skipped the return and opted to attempt to cut the cable the 4-5 inches that stuck out, knowing that if it didn’t work I’d be screwed with the return option. This comes in to play because this is the second time replacing this antenna this year my choice last time was AntennaX for the Sequoia and it fit perfectly with no issue, unfortunately that one is 30 bucks and was 3-4 days out at the time i ordered, so I settled for this due to the reviews and comparability statements which are not 100% accurate.
Needless to say I got it to work, I meassured
from the rubber stop fitting to the tip of the antenna when recessed was about 4 1/2 inches for me that stuck out, took the antenna out measures from the cable end up 4 1/2 inches, marked it. I got a pocket knife and a torch, which if a torch is not available to you I’m sure heating the blade on the stove would suffice, and cut at the marked location. I then cut the new end of the antenna cable at an angle to replicate AntennaX cable end. Of course I forgot to take a picture of this before inserting it in again so I replicated it on the piece of cable I had cut off for demonstration purposes. Feeding the antenna line felt a lot easier with this angle cut at the end, at least it felt easier, could just be placebo effect, but whatever it worked. The antenna now fully retracted. I wrote this in the hope that future buyers will read this and choose accordingly. If you down to save money, and are a bit handy, buy the 13 dollar antenna and cut it. If you don’t want the headache buy the AntennaX model, and if you bought this antenna already and are reading this after your purchase you can choose to cut or return it. Keep in mind there is no guarantee that your cut will in fact work as it did for me so proceed at your own risk. I attached a video and some photos in hope that it clarifies things some more.
