Descrição do Produto: POR-15 Six Pack Rust Preventive Coating

1. Prepare a superfície removendo graxa, óleo e contaminantes com o Limpador Desengraxante POR-15.
2. Aplique o Metal Prep para preparar a superfície e neutralizar a ferrugem.
3. Misture bem o POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating (não agite).
4. Aplique em camadas finas, com um mínimo de duas demãos.
5. Aguarde de 2 a 5 horas para secar ao toque antes de aplicar uma nova camada ou um topcoat.

I have used POR15 for years. In my opinion it is the finest Paint Over Rust product I have ever used. It lasts forever, it seems (if you don’t believe me, just get some on your hands)!!! It must be used safely with a lot of ventilation, and hand protection (because if you don’t wear hand protection, you will wear this stuff for weeks afterward), and don’t overdo your first coat of application. You don’t need to be dainty about applying it, but if your first coat is too heavy, it will run and not turn out as good as it usually does. I live in the Florida Keys, and use this every few years on my boat’s nozzles when I redo my jet boat pumps. I also use it on anything metal that is exposed to salt air. Apply it like the directions say on the can, and you will be very very happy with the results.

This is really good stuff just don’t get it on you anywhere the only thing I found that will cut or clean it is their brand thinner nothing else!!!!! I got a drop or two on the concrete drive way and well a couple of years later it’s still there and looks like something has leaked oil on my driveway duh….it coats well and nothing seems to pernitrate. I will purchase this again it would be good for the mowing deck on a new mower when I get one and as for the under coat on my truck bed and wheel wells fantastic exactly as advertised

While I needed to deal with some serious “rust remediation” issues with the under-body and frame of my ’02 Dakota (after I neglected it through a couple of Northeastern winters), my initial use for POR-15 was the perpetually rusting brake calipers and drums: None of the paint products I had previously used held up for more than 6 to 9 months before discoloration and rusting set in again – even when applied to new (and clean) parts.

The only prep I did was to use a hand-held wire brush to remove loose scale / dirt, and degreased with aerosol brake parts cleaner. For my purposes, sponge brush applicators have generally been best when used with a “dabbing” motion on rough-castings to provide uniform coverage and penetration. As has been noted by others: You may be pleasantly surprised by the coverage you can achieve. I was able to apply a single coat to both calipers / support brackets, both drums / backing plates, and the lower control arms with a single 4 oz. can. I used about 6 sponge brushes (2 inch) to do this, so I suggest buying them in bulk.

I initially purchased the 6-pack of 4 oz. cans due to concerns about shelf-life for the larger quantities, but learned from experience that the iron oxide acts as a catalyst for POR-15, so applying it straight from a can gradually introduces small amounts of rust to the remaining material, causing it to thicken over the course of a few days use. This may also be a reason for limited shelf-life issues, so you should dispense POR-15 to another container for a small job, or a for larger task performed over a period of time.

What truly impressed me was durability: I had removed the brake drums and applied the POR-15, allowing 24 hours for it to “cure”. In the meantime, I decided to replace the brake shoes. Once cured, the POR-15 had a uniform gloss black appearance, although I could detect a faint reddish hue in bright sunlight. This was fine with me, as it was only a single coat, and I was curious as to how it would hold up over time. I reinstalled the drums, and then had some issues with excessive drag while adjusting the new shoes. When I tried to remove the drum to check my installation, it didn’t budge, so I used a hammer around the rim to assist – and then realized that wasn’t a very bright idea with any painted surface – but the POR-15 simply conformed to the obvious dings, and refused to come off even when I tried scuffing the dings with a wire brush.

From experience: The only “problems” I have had have been prep-related – all surfaces to be treated need to be THOROUGHLY degreased, and all loose material must be removed. Use good portable lighting if needed. Be especially observant to remove rust “blisters” that form on areas like frame rails – using a cupped twisted strand wire brush on a grinder will frequently only “polish” the blisters without removing them, and rust will start to show again at those spots within a few months. The better tool to use is an air-powered needle scaler that will break the blisters. I’ve seen that with areas that were properly cleaned and prepped the POR-15 even resists passes with the scaler or powered brush.

At this point, after 6 months and multiple pressure washes, the POR-15 treated brake parts still have a fresh appearance, with no rust returning. I have only a few remaining areas under the truck to treat, and I still have a can left from the 6 pack. I won’t hesitate to reorder more if needed, and highly recommend it, along with the POR Patch, as effective solutions for persistent rust problems.

As a mechanic, I’ve seen my fair share of corrosion damage. That’s why I was excited to try POR-15, a highly-rated corrosion prevention coating. Here’s my experience after using it for months at work and on personal projects:

    Pros:

Excellent Adhesion: This stuff sticks to practically anything! I’ve been impressed with its ability to bond to various surfaces.
Durable Finish: The finish looks great and seems very tough.
Versatile Application: While the product allows application on various surfaces, I recommend some prep work beforehand for optimal results and a longer-lasting, professional look.
Overall, POR-15 is a fantastic choice for anyone who needs serious rust prevention. It’s easy to use, highly effective, and delivers a great-looking finish with a little prep effort.

Here’s who might benefit most from POR-15:

Mechanics or DIYers dealing with rust issues
Anyone looking for a durable and versatile corrosion protection coating

Tip: While not strictly necessary, following the recommended prep work can significantly enhance the final outcome

This stuff is amazing to use. Very tough. The small cans are great, because, once exposed to air and moisture, this stuff starts to cure. If you are going to put the lid back on, use a piece of plastic wrap or aluminum foil between the can and lid, or you will never get the lid off again.

Also, read the directions! Make sure your work area is well ventilated (as in fan) and you are using a high quality respirator (Not a dust mask or Covid type mask). The fumes from this stuff can do serious harm to your nerve and respiratory systems if used improperly.

  7. muppet

Easy to apply, dries quickly and durable. Must be top coated for UV resistance. Only downside is the cans were sealed shut with paint before we opened them. After opening the lids were turned inside out and couldn’t be resealed. The small cans are definitely the way to go since they are so hard to reopen (even when you carefully clean the lid and can lip). We used a glass jelly jar to save leftovers.

  8. Hemedude

Have an old LandCruiser with surface rust on the hitch. Used POR15 on it and the hitch looks like new again (although gloss black). Not sure I need to paint it… looks great as is!! And the six pack of smaller cans makes sure that a larger/standard size can does not dry out before next use.

  9. Michael Brown

EDIT : if you have a partial can , I recommended putting some tape on the lid ro help seal and put it in the fridge to keep it cool, I did that and it was there for 2 months and was still good when I went to use it

This was my first experience with por 15 rust preventative, and I’m glad to say if was a positive .

Don’t let the price scare you, I bought the 6 pack of 4oz cans and 1 can will cover a lot of area with 2 coats it covers very well.

I will likly be buying buying a gal next since I think that’s the best deal, I was a little concerned at first over reading people’s ishues with storage but if u have any experience with paint cans it should be an ishue… keep the rim clean and make sure rhe lide has a good seal and it shouldn’t be a ishue

I used a spung brush, seemed ro work the best
