I’ve used these kits for years on small block Fords and now 1st time I’ve used on gm 350. This kit worked about 1 hour before failing. I talked to product’s customer service and tried his recommendations but to no avail. Returned and got a replacement which is still working after 20hrs use.

I purchased 2 of these to convert my boat engines to electronic ignition. Engines are 454 Crusader inboards that ran great before I started the project…..at least I thought they did! I paired these with the Pertronix flamethrower coil, changed the cap, rotor, and wires at the same time.
Very easy install, the first engine took about 2 hours is I installed the igniter and new cap with the old coil as I was cautious about replacing everything at once just in cast I had a problem. I was so happy with the result of the first engine I changed everything at one time on the second engine, took about 45 minutes and I took my time. No problem with counter rotating engines, install was exactly the same on both engines.
Engines start right up! Idle speed increased from 750 to just over 1000 on each, had to adjust the idle back down. Timing on one was perfect, other needed some adjustment (may have been out of adjustment before I started). After adjusting the idle and timing……WOW! Engines sound smooth, fire right up, and just sound healthier.
Very glad I did this, well worth the time and money.

Replaced points in 1990 boat with 260 hp Mercruiser. Easy install, no more adjusting/replacing points.

Best money i’ve spent on my boat. My old points were out of adjustment and getting corroded on my 5.7L mercruiser. I swapped them out with this conversion unit and added the 1.5 ohm PerTronix flamethrower coil (PerTronix 40011) and a new distributor cap (Sierra 18-5376 ) and now my boat fires up the second i hit the key, it has never started this easy. Starts fast every time. NOTE: This is the exact same unit as the Sierra brand (sierra # 18-5296-2). Sierra sells the same PerTronix conversion unit under the Sierra name and charges over $140 for the same thing, because marine markup, that’s why. If you have a mallory 8 cylinder YL or YD distributor (top distributor cap has the swing over clips that screw down and hold the cap down), this is the right unit for your boat. I found that I had to manually rotate the silver plate close enough to where the original points were located in my distributor housing to get my timing close and lock it down. Then I put the distributor cap back on and finish the timing by rotating the distributor and checking with a timing light when running.

Worked great! Used this with a 1974 Palmer 220 marine engine, and it cleared up the adjustment issues I was having with the points system. Still will probably replace the whole distributor at some point, but this system was just what I needed for a cheap fix for a couple years. Engine runs like a top and has complete detonation/excellent spark. Highly recommended!
