It’s the proper replacement module for their Volkswagen billet distributions.

For now I have only tested it on the bench, it works well. When the car is on the road I will be able to be more detailed.

If you have a Pertronix ignition and it starts the problem of cutting out when it gets warm, this is the solution. These go bad, quite commonly, and it will leave you stranded in your car or boat. Fought this issue with my boat until I found another review mentioning the systems and replacing this cures the problem until the new one goes bad. This is my first replacement so I can’t speak to the lifespan expectancy, but keeping an extra on your boat would be wise. It can be replaced fairly quick when symptoms start to appear.

I currently have over $800 in Pertronix equipment. I have replaced multiple items due to their inability to have any longevity. I decided to pull out all of the Pertronix equipment for several reasons.

1). When your Pertronix equipment fails, you are stranded on the side of the road until you buy replacement parts.

2). Customer service is horrendous. At first I thought customer service was wonderful. Chris was my go to help guy at Pertronix until he made an inference that I am stupid. I am not that smart I will admit. I just don’t need someone on the phone in California making me feel stupid after buying all of their products. He didn’t say it directly but when I asked about an alternative method of grounding he said he help a guy who tried the same thing and it was extreme Lu stupid. He continued to push new products and boast about how he has been using the Pertronix line for over 30 years. He read the prompt that all sales people have to help diagnose issues. What a scumbag company that lets phone answerers talk like that.
3). The parts are designed to fail and most are proprietary.

I am done ranting. I wanted to be in the cool guy club but do not have the patience for the time I lost and money I spent. Off to Autozone for a new set of points, cap and rotor. ($24.99)

Conduct a thorough investigation of the product before you purchase.

    Perfect replacement fit.

great product, just forgot to not leave the key on when the engine isn’t running. So they burn up if you are, say working on some lights and leaving the ignition on while testing. That part is disappointing as I spent 96 dollars while I was installing a new wiring harness.

I was having problems with my truck running poorly below 2K RPM for a few weeks. It acted like a fuel problem and I was ready to pull one of the carbs for a rebuild but when I backed it out of the shop it quit all together at the foot of the driveway. No spark from the coil lead of the Flame Thrower II system. Got a new module and decided to test it against the old one rather than blow it up if something else was wrong. They both acted the same way using the Pertonixs procedure with a voltmeter so I then focused on the coil. I hot wired it and put a spark plug on the coil lead and grounded the negative lead of the coil momentarily to simulate points opening. Got a pretty weak looking spark so ordered a coil. New coil did not fix the problem. Put distributor in vice and hooked coil to it and 12VDC and spun the dist with the old module. No spark. Put the new module in and got spark. Lesson learned; not all failure modes of the module can be detected using the voltmeter test. The truck is running better than ever before.

This is the first instance I’ve heard of where the module deteriorated over time rather than just outright fail.

Bought a pertronix distributor with Ignitor 2 inside, The ignitor lasted about 2 years and died. Bought a second one and lasted 3 weeks!! Yes i’m using the pertronix coil with it and coil is good because I’m using the same coil with a HEI module. I gave up with the ignitor I now use a GM 4 Pin HEI module and it works awsome plus you can buy the HEI module at any parts store for less then the ignitor.

  9. Ryan Reichmuth

The module only lasted 2 years on a car only driven during summer. Would loose spark every time it got to normal operating temperature. With Protronix I learned to Cary a spare as they are not as reliable as points or the GM HEI. New stuff isn’t made to last any more!

We got this for the race car. So far no problems. Easy install.
