Nice easy upgrade on my 1968 Riviera. Had to remove the distributor from the engine for install, although not sure if I really had to after the fact. It likely did make it easier then hunched over the fender. A little snappier response and the engine overall seems happier

I bought the kit to replace the points and condenser, once and done forever! They failed after 4 years and had to be replaced, they now make a new model that eliminates the magnets that fell out.

This was a good upgrade for my daily driver style 68 Buick. The car started easier after installing. I ended up adding the relay, so I didn’t have to bypass the ignition wire with resistor in it. Also note I installed the flame-thrower 2 coil as part of my install.
My only negative comment is It’s a fairly universal design, but in my opinion, they could do a little redesign and choose adding shims inside the distributor under the pick up rather than removing the whole distributor to add a washer. In other words, designer, pick up always too short, so it requires shimming vs pushing the distributor shaft up with a washer.
If you’re not ready to remove your distributor, this may not go well for you. However there are many good videos on the install involving the distributor.

Just installed this on a 1967 327 that hadn’t been started in 19 years! This product is no joke, I sprayed starter fluid in carb (fuel tank not hooked up yet), started first crank! Got it idling perfect after 2nd crank, no lie. Pertronix well exceeded my expectations, made me a very happy man, and even got to get rid of the darn ballast resistor, by using Pertronix coil Blaster II.

PerTronix 91181 Ignitor II Adaptive Dwell Control for Delco 8 Cylinder
I put this into a 1967 Chevelle Malibu with an original 283 V-8. The instructions tell you to remove the distributor for the install and it does need to go that way. I followed the instructions for installation and the only difficulty was having to remove and reinstall the magnetic ring to get the proper spacing. I went through this several times to get the tightest spacing within the required tolerances.
I also installed a PerTronix ignition relay as I did not want to have to rewire the ignition circuit to get rid of the resistance wire.
All this takes time and patience and a knowledge of auto basics. It was not difficult but my previous project car was a Ford Model-A. This is why I rated the ease of installation at a 2. Everything else is a big 5!
My big criticism is of the PerTronix company. It is not easy to understand all their products, how they work and interact with specific limitations on some combinations of their products. It would be nice to have ONE web site with this info. Like, why would I want to use a 1,2 or 3 level Pertronix system and what are all the components I need for that level system. I didn’t know I needed that ignition relay until I got the ignitor system and coil. Still, seem to be good products and they are currently working just great.

If you are concerned that this will be a big project, do not hesitate it can easily be done in an hour. My install took 2 days because I decided to disassemble the entire distributor clean, paint and grease the entire unit, after 40 years I thought it deserved it. In my opinion this unit eliminated any performance concerns I had with the ignition because you just install it set the timing and you are done. I also replaced the coil with the PerTronix Flame Thrower 2 coil, it was a little bigger and I had to elongate the mounting holes on the coil bracket to move it away from the distributor cap a little. My install was on a 73 Corvette 350 SBC.

Used this while rebuilding an old 60s Buick distributor. Went together fine. Little finicky, but ok if you follow the instructions closely. My 1963 Buick Wildcat runs really smooth with this. Would definitely recommend.

Works well once I got it set up. I would have given it five stars but I had trouble setting it up and I must have put it together and taken it apart at least a dozen times trying to get it within specs. I finally had to remove the distributor gear to add another washer. They supply all the necessary parts and the instructions are clear, but even with that being said it’s still not 100% within specs, but it still works fine on my ’57 Chevy.

What a great piece of technology. Replaced old school parts.
