This is a mixed review, the part itself is quality, sturdy and well made. It would be an excellent product if it was the correct part number. Amazon shows this is the correct part for the passenger side parking brake cable for a 1983 Jeep CJ7 but…..
I purchased this cable on Amazon after searching Morris 4×4 and Quadratec for the correct part number. According to those two website and the Amazon fit checker, this should have been the correct part for my 1983 CJ7. It turned out to be the wrong part entirely. When I called Omix, they said this was not the correct part number for a passenger rear parking brake cable and that this was intended for a 1978-80 CJ Jeep. Omix even added they do not have a cable intended for the 1981-86 which I thought was funny.
I found a crown cable with the part number of J3239949 that cross references to this Omix part number but the Omix part number of 16730.08 is not correct. The issue is that the spring that is inside the drum is 5.5″ long. It needs to be 5″ long to be able to even assemble the drum. I don’t know if the Crown part is correct, I got a cable from Brake Best at O’Reilly locally so I could just finish this project. This may be for an 11″ brake which would require the extra .5″ spring to account for the larger drum but the description indicates it is for a 10″ brake with is not correct. It is physically impossible to reassemble the drum with this cable installed. The spring must be 5″ for the brake shoe to seat properly.
Long story longer, just be cautious if you need this cable. Look at the crown part I referenced above, it may work better. But the part is sturdy, spring is stiff, and the cable articulates well, very smooth. Four star rating for the cable quality, 1 star rating for the fit and part recommendation.

Works Well.

After realizing my old cable was rusted together I ordered this and prayed. I’m very excited to report it worked flawlessly and I was able to completely rebuild my entire e-brake set up.

Product received quickly and as advertised.

Direct replacement for the OEM parking brake cable on a 81 CJ5. Plastic weatherproof coating should help it last longer than original. Construction was just as heavy as original.
Andrew Blair –
Was not an exact fit and required some fabrication.
