Used this starter for a 2005 volvo s60. Although it worked I had a little trouble putting the hose back in the intake manifold due to this starter being a little bigger than the original one

The first starter lasted over 300,000 miles and countless starts. I’m hoping to get at least 500,000 miles on this Volvo
Gotanfreek –
There is a retainer clip on the rear of the original this one did not, however, I installed it anyway and has been working for three months. Very happy!

Dummy me didn’t think to test a brand new starter before I put it on. Do you know how hard it is to put a starter on a 2004 volvo? It is a pain in the butt! The solenoid was bad on the starter. It won’t do anything. I tested all of my connections going to it and they are good. Avoid this seller and brand like the plague!
M. Colwell –
Perfect replacement a little modification required of the ignition spade connector on top to fit the oem starter lead. Original only had the bottom spade connector this starter has 2. The bottom one is the one you want to use. Other than a small modification the starter is working great.

Starter works fine thus far. The swap was a bit of a chore given the limited space volvo left you in the xc-70 engine bay. As other reviewers have pointed out, there are two possible places to connect the ignition wire. You want the bottom, vertical, one as connecting to the top will leave you annoyed, standing in the rain, thinking you have a bad starter. I wouldn’t say the starter is louder, but it is definitely higher-pitched than the OEM one it replaced. The XC-70 (at least the ’04 design) does not use the back mounting studs, so you don’t have to worry about the lack of hardware there. I would have a couple of 10 and 13mm nuts, just in case you drop one of the ones for the various hose and wire brackets onto the skid plate. Easier to have them shake out after than try and fish them out mid-installation. Overall, it is a good part at a good price, I cannot comment on longevity, yet, but hopefully it will do the job for the rest of the car’s life.

Fit my 2004.5 S40 no problem. The motor and it’s bolts are a bit longer than the original but it went in without any modifications. Started up and sounds normal. For the 60 price tag and next day shipping it was an easy decision vs the local parts stores who started at 250 and a week to arrive. How can the local people compete with Amazon?
