I had the infamous P0420 check engine code pop up on my 2009 Subaru EJ253 motor. Since it is over 15 years old, I thought I would try a few things before spending many hundreds on an old car only worth a couple grand in resale value. The original sensor was dirty, but still registered a voltage on my scan tool. This new one registers a similar voltage, so my first “easy” fix did not resolve the problem. Yes, I did reset the codes and drove it a few days afterwards. The code stayed off for about two days on average and then came back on again. I cleared the code and even disconnected the battery overnight a couple times. The P0420 came back, so I am on to the next troubleshooting idea. Yes, I could just buy a new catalytic converter, but some mechanics suggested replacing the sensors first due to the age of the car. Good luck to you in your Subaru adventures.

I was getting a code on my car for mixture too rich and some research said to just replace the sensor. I did that (using this sensor) and it fixed my issue. Car runs great now.
