Easy to install. smaller sized bolt heads so more room to work. have only started boat a few times but seems to work great. Comes with a dust cover that i did not install. I did reach out to company about dust cover and whether it needed painted (as someone else stated) and it DOES NOT need painted and the dust cover is a preference based on application.

I have a Volvo penta 350 GXI-F in my 2006 Chaparral 256. My engine wasn’t doing anything when I was getting it ready to put it in the water for the first time this season. After checking the batteries my next stop was the starter. Since this is about 1/6 the price of a new OEM part I didn’t hesitate. Works like a charm so far! Of course, I couldn’t budge the 2 bolts so I had it installed by the only boat mechanic I will ever go to. He had to use a special socket and an impact wrench to get one bolt off that he ground down to fit because the flywheel housing is slam up against the starter and needed to use the torch for the other.

Time will tell. It’s only been used twice since installed but, it’s already showing signs of corrosion. Florida saltwater is brutal on boats. At $43, if I can get 2 seasons, I’ll be happy. It does crank very well!

This starter fit perfectly on my 98 Mercruiser 3.0L stern drive, my boat roars to life now. The old starter was much easier to remove, then reinstalling the new one. An extra pair of hands would have been very helpful, given a very awkward location of starter. Hopefully I’ll get 20 years out of it like my old one! Fingers crossed! Fast delivery, great price.

Didn’t even last 2 years. Went to put my boat in the water and run it to make sure it’s ready for the season and the starter is locked up solid. Basically lasted one boating season.

Installed this on an Indmar 5.7 EFI motor (GM 350 derivative) as a direct bolt-on replacement for the existing starter. Boat fired right up after not starting with the previously installed starter. Starter does come with bolts and has a J1171 sticker on it for marine use. Have to see how it holds up over continued use but currently works well at a much more competitive price than other options.

Came with new mounting bolts, fit perfectly, and cranks the engine really fast. I’m a master mechanic and was skeptical about buying a starter on-line. Not any more! Last boat starter (from a dealer) cost me over $200.00. This one was only $43.00 and it cranks better! I have recommended DB Electrical to many people!

05 Crownline 180br 4.3l Mercruiser Alpha Outdrive this DB Electrical Starter Motor is one quarter of the price of a Mercruiser replacement! And half the price of a Sierra model it’s replacing! Same marine certifications, more torque than stock starter, but costs so much less than others? Installation nearly killed me and probably cost me….my salvation! 6’4″ tall and 200lbs trying to fit into a 2 foot space and work threw a hole that a house cat couldn’t fit threw is a nightmare! I’ll never do it again! Couldn’t, even if I wanted to, because….most of my tools (sockets, both extensions, a ratchet maybe 2 of them, plus crescent wrench, 2 channel lock pliers) are all in the bottom of my boat! Tied a magnet on a string, so I’ll be fishing for tools while my wife goes sunbathing for the rest of this summer season! As for the quality and longevity of the starter? Marine starter is only 2mnths old but can’t even hear it engage the flywheel. Either I’m a better mechanic than I thought or the half day of cursing installation truly sealed my fate for eternity! I did put a different DB Electrical starter on my wife’s Subaru over 5yrs ago….Because the original manufacturer’s part was over 4 times the price as the DB Electrical one. And we have never had a problem with it!
