I purchased the wash mitt instead of the towel version. Although the wash mitt is smaller in size (6″x8.7″ vs. 12″x12″), it is a lot cheaper and both are essentially the same material and serves the same purpose. The mitt design also seemed more functional and despite its smaller size, it is completely adequate.
This product has significantly cut down time detailing my car and seems to work just as effectively versus a conventional clay bar. The initial investment cost may be higher, but considering its practicality (easier to work with and much quicker) and longer lifespan, I think this is a great choice for anyone looking to detail their cars. And after using the mitt, make sure to apply a nice coat of wax to protect the paint (such as Collinite 845).
Despite being advertised as a “wash mitt”, make sure the car is clean. If not, I recommend washing the car first before using this mitt. And make sure to use PLENTY of lubricant as “marring” may occur. This also works great at decontaminating windshield/glass before applying rain repellents such as Rain-X. And this is from their website:
—————–
DIRECTIONS:
Use ONLY on clean, cool paint and out of direct sunlight. DO NOT work on the surface below 55°F and over 144°F. Please use in an inconspicuous place for the first time in case of unexpected adverse effects on paint surface.
NOTE: Sufficient lubrication is crucial to the AUTOSCRUB application.
-Plain water is NOT an adequate lubricant.
-DO NOT use with rotary polisher.
-AUTOSCRUB is not solvent resistant.
-Remove tar & grease before application
HELPFUL TIPS:
-The AUTOSCRUB has a protective coating to ensure stability within transportation. To break in the pad, moisten the AUTOSCRUB with desired lubricant. Moisten a portion of window glass or other glass surface. Rub AUTOSCRUB in circular motion against the glass for 30~60 seconds. You may see a white soapy foam. This is the protective sealant coming off. Don’t use until the polymerized rubber is soft and slightly tacky.
Cold temperatures may stiffen pad. Warm surface before using.

UPDATE: Still love the mitt, and have used it again on mine and a couple of other vehicles I’ve helped cleaned. Always amazed at how well it works. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I detail my car a good amount so I’d assume this helps those road particles from not really sticking too well. If it’s the first time working your paint, be patient, lots of spray lube and go lightly. Let the clay work. Also, those blue ‘spots’ are just my outside light reflection in the hood 🙂
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I was hesitant to clay my own car as I’ve never done this before. I saw the reviews on the clay mitt, and I figured what the heck, I’ll give it a try. It’s a little pricey, but I’m a sucker for trying newer stuff if it means Im getting my ride that much nicer.
I washed my 2020 CR-V two days ago, and it was pretty clean. I detail it every weekend I can, weather permitting. I just did a quick detail on it after the wash to have some protection before I can wax it. I sprayed some Meguiars Quik Detail spray on the hood (my absolute go to for any quick clean and buff spray; love this spray as it’s so easy and forgiving to use on anything. Windows, trim, paint, anything. I detail my fridge and microwave with this stuff!) and was wiping it off to make sure no dirt was on the hood so I could wax it, when I noticed a lot of little bumps stuck in the hood. I iron decon’d the car a couple of months ago, and that worked well, but this was the road crap that is really stuck in there and you can’t get it out without a clay step involved.
So i grabbed the clay mitt I bought as I kind of forgot it when I washed the car. You can clay the car when washing it as you use the foamy soap and water as your lube while doing so; getting two steps done at once, but I forgot I had the mitt. Anyways, I sprayed some Quik Detailer on the clay side of the mitt and then about 4 good sprays on a small 1’x1′ patch of the hood. I very, very lightly just slide the clay mitt straight back and forth on that patch with the detailer all over it as the lube, and then wiped it dry with a good microfiber cloth. HOLY CRAP is that clean!!! I thought I had it clean before, this is next level clean. That patch has nothing in it, and then you feel the part I didnt clay yet and it feels like I’m reading braille. I sprayed 1/4 of the hood, clay mitted it, wiped it clean, and did each section like that. The mitt got everything, I am so impressed and happy with it. I cant believe how easy it was and how much it got out. You just have to use a good slick lubricant like the detailer or foamy soap and water.
As others have stated in reviews, DO NOT SCRUNCH THE PAD TOGETHER!! This will ruin it. Keep it flat, dont try to bend it or crease it, just flat, and slide it over the part of the car you’re cleaning. Start small, and get a feel for it. No pressure at all just let the mitt do the work with the lubricant. Amazing! Also, make sure your car is clean clean. No dirt or debris on it. Clay isn’t supposed to be used to get dirt off your car, its meant to get the road particles that get stuck in the clear coat out.
I waxed the hood with Turtlewax Ceramic and Graphene Paste Wax and wow, that made the hood go from shiney, to ultimate glossy! First time I’ve used that product as well and I love it. The white platinum pearl paint just pops with a high end gloss to it that is a definitely a step up from where I was before, and I get really good compliments on how good the car usually looks. It’s my therapeutic hobby time to clean my cars, and it just got funner and more exciting with this mitt and the wax I’ve added to the mix. I also got some Turtlewax Flex Wax spray for in between waxes that I can’t wait to try once I get the whole car done.
110% recommend this mitt though even if you dont use the other stuff I do. This thing is crazy good!!

This stuff worked absolute wonders for my car and to date shown no visible signs of wear or degradation after a couple of sessions. I run competition pads on my M3 and they are dusty and generally more corrosive towards paint and rims. there was a good square foot patch on each front fender right behind the wheel that was quite literally coated in this hot corrosive stuff and after vigorously applying ample amounts of mothers stage 1 cleaning compound, which works very well in cleaning and prepping the paint, it did next to nothing on the embedded brake dust. with only a few passes the mitt took out every single speck and i can’t help but be impressed. even though i was a bit bothered by the high price, i gave it 5 stars because the product works maybe even better than advertised.

I will never go back to using regular clay bar. This item is expensive but it works, is reusable and makes claying a car super easy and fast. Use with your favorite spray lube.
