    So far a good part

Does what I need it to do.

Reliable part works perfectly. Good price.

Works to get rid of the P0401 code on 2001 mercury sable. The car had a slight shudder if you were really light on the gas at cruising speeds between 30 and 40 mph and on cruise control at 55. Now it’s nice and smooth riding and best of all no more check engine light. It is an easy to troubleshoot part there were plenty of youtube videos on how to back probe the signal wire and test it for proper operation when engaging the egr valve solenoid. Easy to install and price was fair.

Quick and easy install. Fixed my 2nd service engine light code.

You can buy a cheaper part. I did, twice. Yes, I wanted to save a few bucks. I bought a lower price part and installed it and reset the check engine light. The CEL came back on so I replaced It again.
So thinking no way I got two bad parts, I changed the EGR valve. Still not the correct fix. I changed the electrical vacuum control valve. Still no good. I drove it a few months with the CEL on and I could feel the engine was not running right. I started over except this time I bought a Motor craft part which was higher price but it has been on for a few weeks now and the CEL is still off. So do yourself a favor and buy the Motor craft part first. I wanted to save a few dollars and wound up buying three pressure differential valves, an EGR valve and an electrical vacuum valve. And I also bought intake gaskets and cleaned the inside of the exhaust gas passages. Instead of saving a few dollars I wasted over $100.00. There goes my fish bait money.

I have found the “hard way” many times that buying crucial items from the big chain discount places to “save money” is false economy. Even with a “lifetime warranty”, usually you will be returning it for the rest of your life (if you can find the receipt!).
This item is the original FORD part. The one that came with my car lasted 13 years so I am confident that I won’t be replacing this any time soon.
There was a Ford service issue “Article No. 04-11-1” that supersedes earlier service recommendations about this part. This is the one that replaces a number of original different part numbers.
It says “1) Retrieve continuous DTC(s).” If P0401, P0402, P1400 or P1401 are present, turn the ignition OFF and replace the DPFE sensor.”

My Big Merc (2001) was lurching at cruise with a Trouble Code P0402 “excessive EGR flow”. This part completely fixed the problem.

The Motorcraft is more expensive, had it only for 3 months now, but well worth it so far. If it fails, will let you know. I had bought another brand, which was cheaper, only lasted five months.

This part is listed as a Motorcraft part, which gave me the confidence to order it. When I was able to check the part for its OEM credentials, Ford logo and Ford part number, they were not on the part. While an aftermarket part maybe constructed to fit a ford vehicle, there is a specific standard that this part did not meet in order to be an actual OEM Motorcraft part. Only genuine Ford parts are Motorcraft parts. The part that I was sent was some other kind of aftermarket part that was blank with no part number where a Motorcraft part would have had one etched into the plastic. I am not sure why it was listed as Motorcraft, because it was not a genuine part.
