Coming back from my friend’s house, my Ford Focus’ (’05) “check fuel cap” light went on. I didn’t even know I had one of those, but at the end of the twenty mile drive, I did just that–I checked the cap.
My old fuel cap’s rubber “washer” had a deep crack which must have let air in and set off the light, so I was officially in the market for a new fuel cap. That’s where the MGC-839 Fuel Cap comes into play.
PRICE:
I needed a cap, not a hefty price! Before jumping on Amazon to buy this cap, I priced compared regular/locking fuel caps in the auto-shops around town (including Autozone and Kragen O’Reilly Auto Parts). The prices for regular caps ranges from $12.99-14.99 and locking caps $15.99-17.99. I, in particular, was searching for a sub $10 cap that would not set off my check fuel cap light again, and this cap fit my requirements. At the time of this review, the MGC-839 was priced at $9.95, the same price I paid for it with a savings of nearly 25% from my local stores. Your guaranteed to save money and feel good about it by buying this cap. I should know. I checked 🙂
PRODUCT:
The cap is sturdier than my old cap (which was a locking unit) and has solid weight to it. The plastic washer inside is securely placed and came with no cracks. It was air tight! My unit came in a small, square cardboard box which was nice for those who enjoy saving the environment and minimalist design. No extra package wasted here.
INSTALLATION:
Installation was super easy as with most caps. I simply put the cap in then twisted to the right until I heard a “click” which signaled that it was snug and in place.
MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:
Durable, inexpensive, Prime shipping, and easy to install. I highly recommend this unit for those looking for a good fuel cap at a reasonable price. Furthermore, I’ve had the MGC-839 installed for about a month and my “check fuel cap” light has not turned on again. Take that, light! The new cap is working just as it’s supposed to and has helped put my mind at ease. And I hope it’ll do the same for you.

I wanted to replace the cap for my Mountaineer. This one fits, is not too expensive. I would’ve liked for it to have a connector to the vehicle so I don’t have to hold it in my hand while filling.

I purchased this for my 06 Taurus. It felt like it fit fine, but… I was getting intermittent “Loose Gas Cap” warning light illumination. Went back to a Ford OEM factory gas cap and the issue was gone. So I cannot recommend this product.

Dummy me, I drove away from the gas station leaving behind the gas cap for my ’09 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Yes, the fuel cap idiot light came on so I was quick to realize what had happened. I ordered this cap from Amazon, it was delivered the next day. It installed in a flash, fit perfectly -and- bye bye idiot light. Driving was fun again and I saved big time. Local auto parts stores wanted 3 time the price for a replacement unit. So, make driving fun again and buy this gas cap. Life doesn’t get any better than that.

Got this to replace the fuel cap on my 2005 Ford Escape after I dropped it at the gas station and it broke in two. It fit perfectly: no fuel cap light or check engine light. It would be nice if it had a replacement tie so I could secure it to the fuel door, but since the original tie that came with the car broke anyway and I had to hold the fuel cap regardless, it worked out just fine. I got rid of the car before the next e-check, so unfortunately I can’t attest to how it holds up during test time.
