This stabilizer will work on the 78 CJ5. The sc2917 (Loop) or the sc2940 work. One has a Loop to loop attachment. One has a loop to shaft. Check your CJ prior to ordering. Also there are at least two different ways to install. Depends on where the large clamp is attached on the differential. That is on the wheel side or the pumpkin.

SC2917 does not fit a CJ, though Amazon claims it does. It’s and eye to eye version and the CJ requires a post to eye configuration. Check Monroe’s site and you’ll find that they only make one that fits the CJ. It’s part number SC2940.

I ordered the wrong one by mistake, but from what I could see this would work just fine for an every day vehicle, for a serious off road vehicle you may want to look at a heavier duty unit, this came with several bolts and clamps for different fitment.
