Purchased these for 2003 Chevy Cavalier. Actually Purchased front and back assemblies. These arrived well packed in cardboard with warning stickers saying don’t remove nut on top, and since I purchased assemblies so I would not have to screw with compressing springs I’m guessing this is for the less bright. They come with replacement hardware for the top only so if your bottom bolts are rusted you will still need to purchase those. (Since mine were fine I just reused the old stuff)It took me less then 2 hours to do all 4 Struts. You should mount the top before bolting the bottom. You will need to pound out the bottom bolt on the front as it is Treaded after you remove the nut side. On the rear the wheel side nut is welded to the mount. IF you have the tools this is an easy one. Remember to consider getting your front end realigned after this repair. No Issues after install and car handles much better!

They really improved my handling and stopping compared to my stock ones, but they had 172,000 miles on them. Ride isn’t the best but not too bad. One of the studs popped out of the hole they are installed in because they are just pressed into the holes and have lock washers on them. I had to cut a slit in the top of it with my Dremel so I could get a flat head screwdriver on it to get the nut off and put another one on. I torqued a nut down on the other stud first so it would go on the loose one easier. So FYI if anyone else has the same issue. These came from the west coast and I live in Ohio so I didn’t want to wait on a replacement. Also, don’t try to email Monroe because I did 3 times and they never answered so I suggest calling them.

My 2000 Cavalier needed new struts. I don’t like to pay a mechanic for something I can do myself, but the thought of compressing springs filled me with angst. It was therefore a relief when I found Monroe’s Quick-Struts. Amazon gave me a good deal on them, and they arrived when promised.
No special skills or tools are required; just make sure you have all the different metric sockets the Cavalier requires, and make sure you also have a good jack and some jack stands, and some kind of penetrating oil (this job sold me on PB Blaster). If you have all that, the job is quick and easy; you just unbolt the old ones and install the Quick-Struts, and one person can replace all four corners in an afternoon. The only difficulty I had was getting the 21mm nuts to free up on the lower front; they wouldn’t budge no matter what I did, so I had a mechanic free them up with an impact gun. Other than that, the job was quick and kind of fun, too.
Two notes of caution: whatever you do, DO NOT overtighten the nuts on the upper mounting studs! As I learned the hard way, they’ll break off if you overtighten them (and I paid for that experience by having to order in a replacement). Also, as soon as you have the new struts installed, proceed directly to an alignment shop. Do not wait, or you’ll regret it later.
Monroe’s Quick-Struts won’t necessarily make your car float on a cloud, but if you need a cost-effective replacement for your worn-out struts and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, give these a try. They’ve certainly tamed the brutal ride my Cavalier had, and I’m happy knowing how much I saved doing the work myself.

okay product. actually this is the “premium” edition, this is the 172174 from monroe. the budget version is the 182174. i bought this “premium” edition. works okayish as i installed it on my 2003 pontiac sunfire, driver side. fits in the two bolts below easily after some hard nudges that connects to the control arm/brakes/wheel. only problem is the top part. you will screw 3 screws. i got the 2 well screwed but the other one was lose threaded. when you buy this strut, also included are 3 screws. 2 13mm and 1 10mm, problem is, i used the old screw from my car and i think, you should used the new screws provided, you bought them anyway. well, those 2 are well intact so i guess its okay. i will buy another one to install on the passenger side.

I put these in a 2003 Cavalier Sport Coupe with 140,000 miles on it. The whole job took me 1 1/2 hours to complete. 3 bolts/nuts on the top and 2 one the bottom. This is by far the easiest strut job I have ever completed. The Quick-Strut package is a direct replacement and provides a better ride. The best thing about this package, is that I don’t have to worry about compressing the spring. Makes for a very safe task.
With the free shipping, Amazon is by far the cheapest I have found these Quick-Struts.

I put these front Quick-Struts in my Cavalier LS Sport back in April of this year and waited to post a review until everything settled in. I also got new tires and an alignment done after the install. My car now rides like it’s brand new. In fact, I believe that it rides BETTER than it did brand new. It’s possible that it may be a little softer ride than stock but that’s perfectly fine by me as I’m using this car as my daily driver and now have a nice, quiet and smooth ride (my previous struts/springs were harsh and rattled).
The first Quick-Struts I put in on both the front and rear took a little longer as I had never done anything like this before in my life so it was a learning experience. I bought a few tools (impact wrench was awesome), did some research online and watched a few videos on Youtube. Of course I ran into some problems that are typical when you’ve never done anything like this before and are working on a 10 year old car in a rust belt state (like one of the bolts stripped in the rear…) but I just went online whenever I ran into a problem and was able to just deal with it. The rears were a little more difficult just because the upper nuts are kind of a pain to get to but nothing major. I recall that once I got the first front Quick Strut in (that may have taken me a couple of hours), I literally moved over the the other side like a Nascar pit crew member and got the old assembly out and and the new one in in less than 1/2 hour (I actually think it was like 15 minutes but I didn’t time myself – should have). Rears were the same way.
At first I had a really bad clunk in the front passenger side after install and, based on several online posts, I was thinking it was a defective quick strut assembly. WRONG. I did more online research and ended up replacing the sway bar end links which has quieted everything down to a whisper. So while you’ve got the car up on jack stands and the tires off, do yourself a favor and take a look at the rest of the suspension (bushings, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar end links, etc.) because it’s very likely that there are other worn out parts that are just as easy (if not easier in some cases) to fix.
All of my friends, family and coworkers kept telling me there was no way that I could do this myself (being female and not a teenager anymore). Don’t let naysayers talk you out of doing this. if I did it, you can too.
