You read shock reviews, but its so hard to compare unless you had two identical vehicles with competing shocks on each other that you could jump from one to another to compare the ride.
I removed a pair of Monroe Sensitracs and put these Magnums on. The sensitrac were only a couple years old (but probably only had 6k miles on them) and one leaked. I was pretty happy with them. The Magnums ride well but I can’t say they are any smoother or choppier than the sensitrac’s. I have driven my truck over the same rough roads over the years and it’s hard to tell the difference between the two models. Overall, I am satisfied with the Magnum’s ride and they do seem to have a larger fluid resevior for heavier duty applications.
UPDATE: After several months of use and going over the same bumps all the time with the new shocks that I used to go over with the old shocks, it’s clear to me that these are more compliant than the SensiTracs that I had on before. There are a couple bumps leading to small bridges where my truck can bottom out if I hit it just right which didn’t occur in the past. I’m not saying they are lousy shocks, but they definitely seem to be a little ‘softer’ than the SensiTracs. That’s not always a bad thing. I guess for me, we’ll see how they last. I’ll probably go back to the SensiTracs next time.

I recently bought a ’99 suburban with rusty and blown out shocks. I got these as a budget friendly replacement.
There was a definite improvement in brake dive, and the excessive rebound compared to what I was getting with the old, bad shocks.
After installing these I do feel like I have a bit more suspension chatter, but I don’t think that’s the fault of the shocks. Most of the suspension bushings and ball joints, and tires are pretty worn and need to be replaced as well.
In the future, after I fix the rest of the suspension I may invest in something a little better, but for now I’m pretty happy with these.

Easy install on a 1994 K1500 4X4. Rides nice, gives the truck a new feel. I paired these front shocks with Gabriel 43163 Rear Load Carrier Spring Assisted Shocks. The Gabriel on the rear and the Monroe on the front accompany each other well. Good shock, Great value.

The shocks have a smaller diameter rubber grommet, same as the rear shocks and the outer edge of the mount slightly contacts the bottom bracket. When new it is not an issue but once worn in it could become an issue.

Hey, Monroe Gas Magnums at a good price. Made in USA. Don’t know why the write up said China. This is a good shock and has a good ride also. These replaced Monroe Sensa-Track shocks that were at least 15 Years old. Worked on a 96 Suburban with no issues.

JUST PUT A COMPLETE SET OF MONROE GAS MAGNUM SHOCKS ON MY RESTORED 91 GMC K2500 PICKUP. NOTED AN IMMEDIATE DIFFERENCE IN THE RIDE AND HANDLING.
