This weekend I did my semi-annual waxing on our 2016 Tiguan and 2016 Elantra GT. Both are low mileage. The paint condition on the Tiguan is excellent; Very good on the Elantra.

I’m a long time Meguiars fan so I washed the Tiguan with Meguiars Wash and Wax, and then applied Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax. I washed with Elantra GT with Dawn dishwasher soap (it had been parked under trees so was really dirty), and then applied Mirror Shine. Both were waxed in the garage on cool surfaces in the shade. Both are a deep red color.

The effort to apply the Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax and Mirror Shine is similar. It’s more difficult to get the Meguiars applied evenly, and one needs to be careful to not get it into seams and cracks (that require more detail buffing) or on plastic.

While the instructions say to spray Mirror Shine on the vehicle I sprayed it on a rectangular terry application pad. I wiped it on horizontally and then went back over it vertically. When one is applying the Mirror Shine one can feel when contact is being made with the paint as wiping becomes smoother and easier. One doesn’t need to worry about whether the coating is even. I also didn’t need to worry about what the Mirror Shine touched. I put in on paint, plastic, trim, but not rubber. Any residual seemed to disappear. While the Meguiars and Mirror Shine take at least some effort, applying Mirror Shine was easier and faster.

Buffing the Meguiars was difficult. My daughter and I both had to put significant elbow grease into it–multliple times.
It took lots and lots of buffing, and there were still some streaks. I ended up going back over many patches with Meguiars Liquid Quik Wax spray to buff out the streaks.

Buffing the Mirror Shine afterward was incredibly easy. It never streaked. It seems to buff to a shine with just a couple of towel strokes–with no effort. And the look was immediately gorgeous. As others have said, it really brings out a deeper hue to the color. This for me makes Mirror Shine the clear winner.

Based on passed experience the Meguiars will last a couple of months. While Mirror Shine says it will last up to six months, I’d be very surprised if that was the case. Even if Mirror Shine only lasts two months the ease of use (I’m 65) makes using Mirror Shine a no brainer.

Tried Torque on my Honda silver HR-V and it went on as easy as most liquid waxes, which surprised me because I figured it would be a lot more work than standard waxes. It buffed up easily by hand and produced a sharper shine and was noticeably brighter than the spray waxes I had been using. That was in October, and it’s now mid December and it’s still providing protection. It’s sort of like Rain-X for your car’s paint — the finished product is very slick (and yes, the spray bottle zips right off the hood!) and rain is still beading on it. One nice, but subtle advantage is that most of the airborne and traffic borne crud that accumulates all over your car is not able to stick with Torque applied. Bird droppings, dust, insects, leaf chips, sap, tire dust, etc. are usually washed away by a rain, spray hose or car wash. My car is parked under trees 24/7/365 and these collections of dirt and crud are a major problem, but with Torque, it all washes away clean — a major advantage in my book. I have to keep my “garage items” like Torque in the car, through 100-degree summers and below freezing winters, so I’m hoping the container of Torque will survive it all. The only warning is to not apply it to plastic — which is concerning since so much of today’s car trim is plastic or similar substance. I don’t know any more about this aspect, but the company should give more info about this. Overall, I am highly satisfied with this product — it’s expensive, but good.
Update: It’s now many months later and although we had a mild early winter here in Jersey, the past couple of months have been nasty snow, ice, and bone chilling cold. I’m pleased to tell you that the Torque I applied last fall is still working! Snow and ice has come and gone and the usual buildup of dirt, salt and crud has mostly slid off with the next rain storm. I’m not kidding — the car actually looks pretty clean, and has had no car washing. This stuff is amazing and survived some tough winter weather. Don’t know if the bottle of Torque survived the winter, but will update when the weather warms up.

Haven’t personally waxed a car in ages, back in the days of small cans of heavy paste wax. After thoroughly washing the car, put it in the garage and applied about 2 coats, It went on really easy, buffed down quickly. I used about 6 microfiber rags as I around the car section by section. I admit it looks great fresh, but as the “wax” solution was so light, I doubt it will last very long; and per other user comments that seems to be case. The car is a 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF. Drove it a few hours later to a graduation party (about 60 miles) and still looked great afterwards. I guess next is my pickup truck, but that’s more twice the size of this little car.
