My 1997 tacoma is showing signs of key wear. One of the doors can’t be unlocked with the ignition key and the other door is difficult. When I had duplicates made of the ignition key I’ve found the duplicates do not work very well. I fear the day is coming when some major updating of anything that uses my ignition key is going to have to occur.
The directions for changing the ignition appear relatively simple but none are shown for replacing the door lock cylinders which worries me. I once watched a youTube video of how to change door locks and as I remember it looked pretty scary!

Pretty easy install to replace worn ignition cylinder. Mine? You could start the truck with a popsicle stick before this improvement. There are videos on YT showing the installation. Really not very hard if you are at all mechanically inclined. The one downside of this lock isn’t a fault of the lock, but only that now you’ll need two keys, one for the doors and one for the ignition. Not certain if a locksmith could fix that, but the whole point of DIYing the install is to avoid their sometimes expensive fees, no? Unit’s fine, well made, works well and is as advertised, just knocked off a point for the two keys aspect.
