Mann filters are the OEM for Mercedes, and therefore my first choice. Bosch quality has slipped dramatically in recent years, so there is really no doubt which brand to go with.

it’s OEM replacement for my car.
on my previous cars i’ve been using mobile 1 filter with syn. oil for years with great result. for my current car i researched the topic and it seems that the oem filter is better, or as least just as good so i give it a try. i’m using it with mobile 1 syn. oil. it’s good so far but i’ll have to find out over time.
I’m really glad amazon carries these items.

Use the brand in all my Benzes. Can’t beat this one for my R170 SLK230. Comes with essential rubber gasket and fill plug crush washer (also essential if you aren’t a dipstick sucker). Be sure to pull out your old rubber gasket, as accidental doubling up is common cause of leaks. BTW, I finally found a great filter socket after some duds. I was confused by DIYs and youtubes showing use of ones that are slightly too big and I went through too many tries, causing some rounding of housing. Anything close might work if housing is not overtightened like mine was, but I was saved by ABN 8626 at 74.2 mm with 14 facets, great extra notches to really grab the corners, and quite a bit more depth than others to reach past the domed top.

The Mann-Filter HU 727/1 X Metal-Free Oil Filter is the standard oil filter for a W124 Mercedes with the M104 Engine. It comes with a rubber o-ring as well as a washer to replace your old rubber o-ring and washer on your current oil filter housing and washer from your oil pan. I’ve listed the price below for this specific oil filter; it seems that Amazon is the cheapest place to buy it ($8.15). Packaging was decent and the oil filter arrived with no damages. I actually ordered an extra one for my next oil change.
Note: I do my own oil changes, so if you plan on doing your own oil change and if you buy this oil filter, you may also want to look into getting an oil filter socket/wrench to remove your current oil filter for its housing. I went through so many oil filter sockets/wrenches; trying to figure out which oil filter socket/wrench would work. The main problem with the other filter socket/wrenches was that it didn’t fit the housing perfectly because the sockets/wrenches didn’t have enough flutes (14) and/or wasn’t the right size (74.4mm). The fit really needs to be exact. After handful of tries, I finally found a filter socket/wrench that fits the filter housing perfectly. I could have gotten an adjustable filter wrench, but decided to get one specifically for my car. The oil filter socket/wrench that finally worked for me is the Hazet 2169 Oil Filter Socket ($29.99 on Amazon); 14 Flute; 74.4mm. Make sure to also use a 3/8 ratchet with a 3/8 extension bar, as the workspace is tight.
Mann-Filter HU 727/1 X Metal-Free Oil Filter Prices:
– Amazon = $8.15
– Walmart = $8.79
– Auto Zone = $8.99
– NAPA Auto Parts = $9.99

I’ve used this filter now for 2 oil changes on my 93 300E mercedes. Seems to hold up well and doesnt get crushed or fall apart. You will need a special oil filter cap removal tool found online for $50. This filter “snaps” onto the bottom of the filter cap.

Excellent product for use in my Mercedes SL320 engine. I trust the Mann name for providing a quality product at a competitive price.
