The Mann filter is an exact replacement for the BMW OEM filter for my 2102 X5 diesel. Mann makes the OEM BMW filter, the only differences are that the OEM BMW filter has a little “BMW” logo on it and the old BMW part number (1371 7 798 342) along with the Mann filter part number – C 33 001 and the Mann filter only has the Mann C 33 001 stock number. Both filters are made in Mexico, probably in the same factory. BMW is notorious for farming out all sorts of ancillary parts – this filter included.
It took me less than ten minutes to replace the filter but I’m fussy and clean all the covers inside and out and vacuum everything. My engine compartment is clean.
To replace the air filter, carefully pull up and then forward on the top plastic engine/acoustic cover (the one that the oil filler neck comes through). Underneath that cover is the air filter cover that has 5 or 6 metal snap clamps that you pop loose. Use a T25 torx to remove the two torx screws on the air induction pipe on the left hand side of the filter box and the filter cover comes right off. Remove the old filter, vacuum out the air intake box, replace the new filter being sure to press it all the way down all the way around. Slide the air filter cover into the rear retainer slots, push it backwards and down and be sure everything closes flush. Clip all the snap clips back in place. Replace the air induction pipe with the two torx screws Then slide the engine/acoustic cover into the rear stays on the back of the air cleaner box, and press it into place from the top and you’re done. If you prefer video to text, a few folks have posted videos on YouTube for the remove and replace process.
See my photo of the Mann and BMW OEM filters below. The filter with the little Beemer logo is OEM and the Mann is the clean one with no BMW logo. Hope that helps! Tretiak

Perfect fit for my X5 2017 Diesel

The air filter is an exact fit replacement for 2009 X5 with a 3.0 liter Diesel engine. The repair shop wanted $168.00 dollars to replace it. The filter was $32.00.
You’ll need a T30 torx bit with a universal and extension to remove one screw.

Mann makes excellent quality parts for bmw. This is no different. Top of the line.

I was super happy with the price and quality of this filter. It arrived a day late but It was worth it. Fits my X5 perfectly

This works in the X5 diesel, even though the packaging says “X6”
Amazon Customer –
Fit just like OEM, no issue with the filter, it was a great fit for my 2012 X5 35d. Definitely will buy again.

MANN air filter is the same as the one stamped with “BMW” that the dealer installs. I saved myself a ton of money, time, and fuel expense.
