Worked great to fix my parking break since I moved the rear wheels back a couple inches and increased travel. There were just two things that I had to deal with. I have smaller than normal rear drum brakes than what would typically be used so I had to cut the spring to fit it. Then while setting the break I had to custom make a new adapter because I wanted to use my factory hand brake and I had to use clamps to tension the cable and clamp the steel cables. (I had to do this several times till I pulled enough, pretension the cable so the brakes would work about half throw.) They seem pretty good quality. I used a hiem joint to connect to my factory handle and the threaded rod fit the clamp block and the hiem joint; I had to buy a high grade threaded rod to build the link. Have someone build the link if you aren’t sure weld a safety stop nut on the end and ensure you put the nuts on to lock the rod to the clamp block and heim joint. I think if you need a good working parking brake to replace old lines or for a custom application then measure for the size you need and install these and you should be happy.

This was an easy solution for a rear disc brake swap I did on my 1971 Chevy C10. Easy to cut and install. I did do some custom fittings to the factory cables, so I didn’t really use it as Lokar intended, but it worked out great.

Cable did exactly what I wanted it to. I have a Mopar rear axel in my 260Z Datsun,
Cable fit the mopar backing plate and even fit the Datsun park brake lever perfectly.
Parking brake works great. Definitely recommend this product.

This is an excellent choice for installation of a hot rod e-brake. Quality is heavy duty and simple to work with. Worth every bit of the cost. I’ve found Lokar products to be second to none in quality and price. Additionally, the instructions included in their products must be authored by someone quite familiar with the public’s need for instructive simplicity and clear concise drawings and pictures. Only a car guy could put together this kind of quality.

Just a couple of feet short of 5 stars, while it was just long enough for my truck, it did require mounting the handle pretty far back to not be too short. I adapted the wheel end to my Dana 60 HD full floater by cutting the factory style cables and using the springs and clips from them. I would also consider adding some thin (very thin) washers to the fitting on the backing plates if you use a heavy duty axle. My factory cable openings are large enough that the lokar parts just barely fit without pulling through, a thin washer on each side of the backing plate will fix it. I was surprised by how small the fitting is, at least on the outside it seems logical it should have been much larger.

Think this through. Universal fit? Well, not really!
I’ve heard such great stuff about how well everything is made and how well it all fits together But, it didn’t work for me!
I bought this product along with the emergency brake handle and all other cable systems to install in a 3/4 ton GMC truck. I should first start by saying that I called Lokar directly to confirm part numbers and order this equipment (I had to have a custom cable built by Lokar) and they referred me to a reseller. The guy at Lokar who helped me took all my information, looked up the part numbers for me and NEVER said there would be an issue. I was very specific about the vehicle, year and issue I was trying to solve.
I ordered three items:
Universal brake cable EC-80FHT
Brake handle EHB-9200
Connector cable for Brake Handle EC-8001HT
I just went back to check their web site and technical information to make sure I didn’t mess this up — nope, not a word about not working with 3/4 ton trucks. Just a generic claim that it works with all GM vehicles, and Dana rear ends with drum brakes.
All of my emergency brake cables arrive and I start to put this together and find that the mounting bracket hole on the drum brake backing plate is too large. The Lokar cables just pop right through and won’t mount up. OK, I think it must be missing a bracket? So I call Lokar tech support and ask how to solve this. Their response? This system does not work with 3/4 ton pickup trucks! The Lokar tech said “if you want to use this parking brake system, you’re on your own”. Really? I just dropped close to $600 on what’s claimed to be a complete system. I’ve spent two days of my valuable time pulling the rear-end out of my truck, getting the old parts out and now I’m on my own!
I would have been better off skipping this stuff and you would too, since I probably need to machine my own brackets, I could have purchased OEM cables and retrofitted a brake system from another vehicle out of a wrecking yard.
Not sure what to do next. I had to cut my old cables to get them out of the truck, the Lokar stuff doesn’t fit, and it looks like I’m going to pay for this upgrade twice!
