Direct replacement, fit and everything seemed to be the same.

Fit perfectly and performed perfectly. There were a lot of complaints about this and another ignition lock cylinder not fitting their 1988 pickups. I was informed by the local Toyota dealer that in the 1988 model years, Toyota changed the lock cylinder about midway through the year, so you need to remove your original one and make sure you are ordering the correct one. If you do that, you should end up with the correct one on the first try.

Works for my 88 4wd pickup. You need to uninstall your original, to check the type of ignition you have before you order. To assure the correct ignition switch.

I used this to fixed a failed ignition lock cylinder that no longer retained the key in place on my 1989 Toyota 4Runner. They only downside is I have a separate key for the ignition and the doors, but that’s to be expected. Good quality and great value. Key no longer comes out on it’s own. To get the lock cylinder out you have to pull the steering wheel and wiper stalk assembly to reach the release button.

Obviously the original one had been there since 1988. I don’t know what the lifespan of this will be.
