As a hobbyist leather worker I use leather paint on all my leather edges. The leather paint that I normally get is very expensive ($9 for 2 oz), so I thought that I’d try this value pack. This set includes 12 different colors in plastic jars, which will be fun to try out on the wallets I make. I can use these colors or I can experiment by blending colors and make my wallets really stand out.
I took some leather scrapes and painted the edges (see photo) to test the adhesion and the enclosed brush. I bent the leather a lot after it dried and there was no effect on the paint. The brush was what you’d expect, but I did it fast and it shows. I’ll stick to my paint edgers for application in the future. The leather paint is thick enough not to run. The leather I used is full grain vegetable dyed and there was no preparation to the edge before the paint application.
The paint is recommended for now, but I’ll update this review based on longer term use.

The pack has a good variety of colors. I ordered it for a minor repair on leather; I applied a thick dot of paint on the surface and let it dried. The result was excellent because the paint dried with a rubbery consistency that is flexible and blends well with the original leather. I do not recommend doing a big patch because the color will never be the same, but on small surfaces, it works great.

I have used some leather scraps to get better at applying this paint before using it on my older, plain leather purses. Okay, so yeah, I’m a purse-addict and have quite a few purses hanging in my closet, but the thing about those older leather purses is that I don’t carry them because they are just plain jane type purses. I don’t expect them to turn on lights in the house, take out the cat’s ltterbox or anything crazy. I just want them to be more colorful and attractive to carry! With these paints I was able to transfer a lily onto the side of one purse and then follow a real picture to add in the white, the pink and the maroon – the dots and the green/yellow stamens in the center of the flower. It may not look absolutely life-like, but I think it looks really pretty. This paint did a fine job on the leather and I was pleased with my first attempt. I have a couple more purses and want to try imitating the more famous painted leather purses that I can’t afford – which, given a bit of talent, I might be able to come close to. These paints will get me there!

The paint is really nice but the green leaked in the box so I only have about 1/2 a bottle. The silver is pretty thick and hard to spread. The white works great on touching up the white on a NHL leather jacket. I just wish the silver was better because I will not be able to finish fixing the silver leather on the jacket.

The paint was damaged from the start…It appeared to be used based on the smear on the inside of the box…Even if it wasn’t used some of the paint bottles were damaged and leaked unto other bottles…Paint bottles had to be broke into with a screwdriver as I couldn’t screw off lids as I should have been able to.
