The Bickmore Leather Oil is a solid, dependable choice for anyone looking to restore and protect their leather goods. The bottle contains a blend of lanolin, mink oil, and linseed oil, all formulated to condition and waterproof leather while also helping to extend its lifespan. It’s easy to apply and penetrates well into the material without leaving a greasy residue, which is a notable plus.
In use, it worked effectively on worn-in leather boots, bringing back a healthy shine and suppleness after just one treatment. The label does mention it may darken certain types of leather, and that was true in my case, so testing in an inconspicuous area first is smart. It performs well on most smooth-finished leather items like saddles, belts, and bags.
The bottle is clearly labeled and easy to handle, and while the cap had a bit of wear in the sample shown, it didn’t affect the usability or storage. Instructions are clear, and it’s appreciated that it’s made in the USA using a straightforward, natural formula.
Overall Bickmore Leather Oil does what it claims. It restores, protects, and conditions leather. It’s a solid all-purpose treatment for smooth leather, especially good for reviving older or weathered items.

See the before and after photos of my boots which speak for themselves. This stuff is great! The before photo is of clean boots – I did no further cleaning, just oiled them to achieve the after photo.
A couple small gripes: one, I used a lot of product (maybe 1/4 of the bottle?) which would put this at about $5 per conditioning, but on the other hand this is the first time I’ve conditioned these boots after six months of very regular wear, and that included the winter and exposure to salt. So these boots were due a cleaning, and very thirsty for the oil; maybe next time they wouldn’t soak up so much product. Secondly, when you tip the bottle upside down and squeeze, I was getting some leakage through the click top cap which became a bit of a mess. But otherwise, no complaints and I’d absolutely get this stuff again! The bottle says it’s a blend of lanolin, linseed, and mink oils. It’s thin enough to spread easily, but thick enough it stayed put well enough when I squeezed a line of it onto a section of the boots.

So far, I’ve tried this conditioning oil on two items. The first, a badly dried leather guitar strap that had been stored folded too tightly for about 25 years, came back to life with the first application, and has lost most of the fold marks with a second. I really thought that strap was a goner!
My second try was with my Dad’s old tooled leather belt, which unfortunately has lots of wear and cracking. We picked it up on a vacation a long time ago, and now that he’s gone, I’d like to preserve it as a keepsake. The portions that are not cracked are doing much better. I’ve been redoing the treatment about once a week. The leather is so thirsty that it returns to a ‘dry’ state after a week or so. Hopefully, with enough repetition, I’ll be able to save it.

The combination of lanolin, linseed oil and mink oil is superior to other products that use only mink oil or linseed oil. I used to use a wax-like mink product on work boots to keep them waterproof and keep the leather more supple. This Bickmore product goes on easier and really soaks into dry, weathered boots.
While it does darken them, the way it makes the leather softer and more flexible is pretty impressive. That darkening effect is actually desired because it makes the color more even and really improves the look and feel of the boots. After cleaning my boots and applying Bickmore Leather Oil and Conditioner, my boots look a lot newer!
I live in Central NY State where we get a lot of snow in Winter. Here I am only concerned with repelling water, mud and snow because there are no harsh chemicals in this rural area. After boots start to age, they get dry and absorb water. Using a boot dryer can make the leather age faster because they are typically too hot. With this product water will actually bead up on my boots and they stay dry inside. I am looking forward to next winter because this treatment will mean no more soggy, cold boots.
While it is more expensive than some other products, it works much better.

This Bickmore leather oil is a lightweight, light yellow, liquid that has slightly less viscosity than vegetable oil. There was no odor as far as I could detect. It comes in a handy bottle with a flip up spout. The bottle has a removeable inner seal to prevent leakage during shipment. The bottle cap was very tightly sealed when it arrived, so much so that I needed some pliers to loosen the cap.
On new finished leather, the oil is minimally absorbed and leaves a thin film of surface oil which is shiny and enhances the leather color without darkening the leather. It took 1-2 hours to dry to the touch in a house with low humidity after which there was no oily or sticky residue. Older, worn leather will absorb more oil and will also benefit more. On unfinished leather the oil soaks in rapidly and markedly darkens the leather, though, after drying, the color does lighten.
I applied the leather oil to the right half of a well used leather love seat and there was a significant improvement in the appearance on the treated side (see photo). The treated side had regained its lustre and coloration. I also used some on an old baseball glove with good results.
This product works well and is a useful product for anyone who wants to restore or enhance the appearance of their leather goods.
