I have a 1997 F-150 with 200K plus and the rear shocks were factory original. I never repleced them because of time and the stud was against the bottom of the truck bed. I was getting ready to perform other suspension repairs and decided I was going to bite the bullet and attack these rear shocks. I searched several options and for the price and compatibility, i chose the KYB’s. When the repairs were completed and I drove the truck down the mile long gravel road I live on, I immediately noticed a more stable handing from the rear of the truck. The rough surface didn’t cause the back of the truck to kick out to the side like before. I am very happy with the ride control provided by the KYB’s.

This is an excellent shock. It replaced the original shocks on my 2001 F150 – cornering and steering are vastly improved. Ride is a little stiffer than new 2012 F150s – but I intended it to be.

Shocks work ok, but be sure to check the nuts, washers, etc. I ordered two. Once came with the correct parts, the other was clearly for another model. It was easier to got to HD and get what I needed than a return et al so I don’t know how the customer service would have been…

Shocks work well. A little rougher ride than the OEM originals, but if I wanted a smoother ride, I’d buy a car. The red also looks sharp under the truck.

First of all I’ve had good experiences with KYB Monomax shocks in the past. Great shock when I hung them on an early ranger.
My first issue is that they came poorly packaged with components scattered around the shipping box. The boxes for the individual components themselves seemed faded. I opened all the boxes to ensure all the components were there. The shocks had surface rust under the boots but the rust looked superficial for a component not expected to be visible. It occurred to me that the shocks might be fake but they had stamped lot numbers and appropriate stickers. One of the four shocks had wildly different bushings and different components. The hardware and bushings were all in the factory taped bags. My truck is in pieces and I thought It might be a production run difference, whatever…
I get them mostly installed, as part of rebuilding the front end of my truck. I’m replacing control arms, removing/replacing steering knuckles – not hard but a definitely a pain in the ass if I have to take everything off and do it all over again.
I’m going to have to do it all over again. The threaded portion of one of the shocks is rolled.
I could chase the threads with a die but at this point I’m beyond pissed. Out of spite, I’m going to disassemble my truck to remove these. These should be higher quality shocks than the janky suspect components cosplaying as top tier shocks that I received.
I’m returning these and buying a set of Bilsteins from a known vendor.
Update:
Received the replacement Bilstein shocks from Rockauto, a known vendor.
Both shocks are made in Mexico however they Bilsteins had much better fit and finish. The stickers and zip ties were already applied to the shock body, welds looked cleaner and rubber seemed higher quality. Most importantly the hardware matched and the threads weren’t pre rolled
Save yourself a headache, buy quality shocks from a reliable vendor.

Seemed good quality, but bottom eye was too small to fit my 2001 isuzu rodeo, so I returned. Length was a good match though for the 6″ lift.

Seems like good shocks, however I gave them 4 stars because the ride is a little bumpy.
