I wanted to love this, but it was just not quite sturdy enough to be useful. I give it 3 stars because it DOES get the job done. It does adjust to the right size and hold within the CD slot quite well. The problem is that it is too narrow in minimum width to securely hold an iPhone 5s. I know it claims to be able to adjust to iPhone 5 sizing, and technically it does. But because it’s spring loaded, by the time the springs push the holding arms inward together to clamp onto the iPhone 5 sides, there is not much tension left in them, and it only moderately holds. Any bumps in the road knock it out, and even moderate pressure on the phone screen while in the holder (which is what it is designed for) will push the phone out of the holder arms. Doesn’t work for me. Would work much better for larger phones (Galaxy, iPhone 6, etc) so it retains 3 stars. Returning for my own inability to use it, thought.

I am very impressed with iOttie’s customer service. They reached out to me proactively to help me solve the issue and ended up replacing the part with a similar product that works better for my needs at no cost to me. Very quick shipping, friendly representatives, and they take the initiative to correct problems!?? I wish more companies stood by their products like that and took the same stance toward their customers. I am very pleased with both the company and the product. I now have a working iPhone holder and I love it.

Macht genau was es soll. Das alte CD-Laufwerk, welches ohnehin nicht mehr gebraucht wird, dient nun als stabiel Halterung für mein Mobiltelefon. Echt gut und empfehlenswert, wenn man keine CDs mehr im Auto verwendet.

Fits nicely in the CD slot — it provides tension to grip around the entrance, and does not protrude very far in to the cavity, so it should not impact the inner workings of the slot. But I would ensure that the CD slot is empty prior to mounting this.
The tabs that do fit into the CD slot, are secured in place my causing the outside ones to push up, and the middle one to push down, securing it in place. For some CD slots that have a taller opening, this won’t be enough tension.
It comes with a little adapter to increase tension for those who need it. The instructions show you where the adapter needs to be inserted into the mount housing to increase the tension. Definitely try it without the adapter, as once the adapter is installed into the mount housing, the adapter is probably going to be very difficult to remove from the mount and put the tension back to the basic level.
I got this as an amazon warehouse deal — the package had been opened and returned — possibly by someone who did not understand the use of the adapter. It took me a minute or two to understand the purpose of the adapter, as I immediately installed the mount without reading the instructions and found it a bit loose — it could be installed, but the tension would be insufficient to hold it in place reliably. Once I read the instructions and understood that I needed to use the adapter to increase the tension, it installed and held beautifully. Amazon had an inspected sticker on the package, and all the pieces were present, so I was happy to get it for a bit cheaper than the regular retail price.
The mount itself is easily removed from the CD slot, as it has a tab, that once release, releases the tension on the tabs that hold it the CD slot.
It is very easy to add your cellphone and remove it. Snaps right in, when the back of the phone its the trigger release in the middle of the mount. To release, press in the side tabs. Once a phone is mounted, the side tabs don’t stick out very much, so it looks good — far better than the photo in the description. It allows the phone to swivel and rotate, with the right amount of hold so that it stays wherever you position it.
I selected this, as I was a bit worried about using a magnetic mount and screwing the compass in the phone, and having a metal plate that might scuff the back of my phone.

So I’ve been using this for around a year now and it works as good as the day I got it. It fits into the vent, and holds the phones securely. We’ve had smaller phones all the way up to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and it holds it securely. You just have to make sure you clean the rubber arms with a damp cloth on occasion as it will get dirty and the grip will begin lessening so your phone may slip a little, but it has never dropped our phones. If you have a heavy phone I would recommend pushing the holder into the vent to ensure it is snug and secure as we have it the entire unit fall off the vent a couple of times but it was only because when you pull the phone off it can sometimes slide off the vent enough to no longer be secure. On my wife’s phone she has a case with an intricate design in the back, which, unfortunately does not trigger the auto grip button on the center, so we have to engage it and then wedge the phone in, but it works great once it is in. Overall it works good, quality is great, and it isn’t a huge monster on your dash so it isn’t really noticeable when a phone isn’t it in. I tried numerous phone holders and this, by far, was the best and held the phones as secure as ones that had little feet at the bottom. overall, this was the end of my journey of looking for a good phone holder! I will say though this depends on vehicle, as I have a Toyota Sienne and the vents are perfectly positioned, but in my Toyota Camry the vent is angled too far back making the phone screen not as optimal. So again, your experience may vary slightly.

This is one of several phone mounts this seller offers. This one slots into any air vent on the dashboard or centre console (for passengers in the rear).
It’s so well designed and made. All you’ve got to do is attach the ball joint to the cradle by unscrewing the knurled nut, slipping it over the ball and then marrying the two pieces together. Making sure the locking switch is pointing downwards, slot the entire assembly into any air vent and push the locking switch sideways to clamp it into place. Then just slot your phone in – there’s a little button on the rear bottom and if you press that you can open the jaws wide enough to accommodate even the largest phones. To be honest, although I haven’t tried, I’d think you could get a mini tablet in there.
The mount swivels so you can get a comfortable angle for the handset. It’s so easy then to just slot it in or take it out.
This is a very easy solution to a problem car manufacturers have in that there are so many different styles of mobile phone they can’t decide what, if any, mount to supply with new cars. If you’re changing you car just swap the mount into your new one. I think many people would find this indispensable, especially when, at time of writing.
