Prevents your batteries from getting cooked by the original inverter that only delevers a hard charge. I leave my camper plugged in year round and this makes my batterys virtually maintenance free. Works to charge up low battery and then turns to trickle charger when the battery is full.

I used this as part of a full solar/power system on my teardrop camper. After a year, it has held up well, giving me zero problems. It was fairly easy to install and worked as advertised. The full system provides several days of capacity when the sun is not shining (running some lights, a small cooler, and a CPAP at night). When the sun is shining (or we are on shore power) it has enough capacity to keep the batteries topped off so we can run indefinitely.

The IOTA DLS-45/IQ4 replaced my existing converter in my 2006 Fleetwood Gearbox 220FB toy hauler. The old converter still worked but it didn’t have the smarts that the IOTA converter does. When running the onboard generator I wasn’t getting as fast a charge as I was expecting on the dual Trojan T-105 6V GC batteries. I rarely camp where shorepower is available so the charge from the generator has to be good (when the solar charge isn’t sufficient).
The IOTA fit into the spot where the old converter resided. The only problem was that only two of the existing mounting holes with nuts matched up to the new unit. That was close enough. With just those two mounts the converter didn’t move at all.
I cut off the three prong plug and direct wired the converter to the existing bare wires.
The new converter makes more and different noises as it goes about its business. It’s not annoying, just different. It would be nice if IOTA had a remote monitoring panel that plugged into the converter so I could see what it was doing.

I bought the 45 amp unit and am using it to keep a 750 AH Deep cycle battery charged and supply solid 12 Bolts for a 1500 watt inverter. I used the system to keep my desktop, security cameras and NVR all powered up and running during the frequent power outages we get here in Puerto Rico. It works like a champ and soon I will add a second 740 AH battery for longer coverage.

Sometimes I back to work and check the installation with more than 10 years old and still working like a champ.

I’m not an expert on batteries. I’m a RV camper who wanted a fast charge on a pair of T-105, flooded, lead-acid batteries (in series). The IOTA DLS-45/IQ4 doesn’t exactly tell you what it is doing, it just does it. You can buy a model without the IQ4 smart charger but unless you can monitor your battery during a charge period and know exactly what you want, you may not happy switching plugs on a voltage controlling dongle to control your charge. The IQ4 has a blinking LED on it that may help figure out the charge status but that’s all there is.
IOTA mentions cable size and length. It’s very important. At full charge current, you want as little voltage difference between the charger and the battery connections as possible. A few tenths of a volt difference reduce the charging efficiency (increased time). I used #2 AWG copper, 18 inches long.
I measured both voltage and current into the battery. At 70% discharged, my batteries were down 67 amp hours. The DLS-45 will Bulk charge at 45 amps. It raises the voltage up to 14.8 volts to maintain maximum charge current.
At 80% it drops to 14.2 volts and what they are calling absorption mode. On my battery this started at about 30 amps and dropped off pretty evenly over the next hour, settling around 8 amps. This is almost 90% charge. I shut down the generator at this point as getting the last 10% could take hours more.
The IQ4 also works on AGM batteries. The DLS is made in 15 to 90 amp models.
I leave the DLS charger cables hooked to the battery. When the unit is not plugged into AC, there is virtually no current draw from the battery.
I’m giving the DLS 4 stars because a lot of what it does is not intuitive, and they are asking you accept what it does on faith. It is NOT environment proof. It doesn’t like rain, dust or the summer sun beating on it.

Many chargers, like the Noco models have this oppressively loud fan that drones the whole time the charger is running. This unit the fan does NOT run if it doesn’t need to. As it begins to need it, the fan comes on slowly, and then will only increase if there is too much heat. Basically, the fan is properly thermally regulated. And the fan is a proper fan that moves air and doesn’t put all its wattage into making whirring sounds. Other than that, it charges quickly. Used it to top off 2 Trojan T105 golf cart batteries in a generator-assisted solar setup. When I would charge the batteries, it would initially pull about 700w, then start dropping down as the charge would get close to done, usually within 1-3 hours depending on SOC. The fan never came on for me. I also used it to charge some smaller 12v batteries, and seemed to work well. Quality product. Way better than those cheap chargers.
