The media could not be loaded.
Also known as Camshaft Adjuster Magnet. 2014 VW Jetta SEL 1.8T tsi motor, automatic. 123k miles. Was running poorly on cold starts. Misfires, shaking, tapping, clicking, surging, stalling. Codes engine had were p0011 timing over advanced, p0016 another timing code, p0300,301,302,303,304 misfires on all 4 cylinders. Replaced timing chain. Replaced spark plugs. Same thing. Did more research before giving up, learned about how this magnet clogs, nearly impossible to clean. I actually saw another person instruct you to simply unplug it and if your engine runs better, then the magnet is bad confirmed. Watch the video. Tried this replacement as autozone, Napa, oreilly, advance auto all could not source it, didn’t want to wait 1 week for rockauto, and lastly vw dealer said part is $260. After install the first start had an immediate difference. Engine sounded good and stable. Time will tell the quality of the part but we are looking good, cleared all codes after switching part, and none have come back. We will see if oil consumption is reduced… 10k oil change intervals was a sin from the vw factory…
