I installed this 3 months ago and since then my gas mileage has increased from 16.0 to 18.2. As soon as I installed it the Service Engine light reset itself with no help from me. There have been no indications of poor performance or impending failure. I’m very happy because not only has it performed well, it was much less expensive than other products. Saved a ton of money.

I got this for my 02 3.8L Monte Carlo ss(not supercharged) and it did the job I put it in a month ago and haven’t had any issues

Worked great for awhile now back to square 1. This is the 3rd one I have bought. 1st 2 was elcheepos and didn’t last a week.thought Hitachi would be comparable to a Delco but that’s what I get for thinking. I know this is right at 100$ less than acdelco but pay the extra.i may have something else that is blowing them,I don’t know, I’ll have to check it out

Decided to order this Hitachi MAF0047 as a replacement for my 2005 Buick LeSabre because the one it was replacing was also this brand. I’m so glad I did and highly recommend this particular sensor for anyone needing one. Though I wasn’t sure if I needed to replace the MAF sensor or some other part, it was apparent my problem had to do with fuel delivery. Did some research online. Most that described the symptoms I had (motor turning over but stalling immediately, strong smell of gasoline, black smoke coming from exhaust, having to run at very high rpm to keep from stalling, etc) ended up replacing the MAF sensor. Before ordering this, tried cleaning the old sensor with a special spray cleaner from auto parts – didn’t help. Tried a fuel additive in case there was water in tank – didn’t help either. Decided not to have diagnostic testing done because the results are not always definitive on pinpointing exact cause. Finally decided to go ahead and just order the new MAF sensor. Installed it over a month ago and car has been running perfectly since. The Amazon supplier I order this from was excellent with fast shipping and no problems.

Like everyone else who has seen this item, my first thought was why is this so “cheap” (for a MAFS). After researching this a little and reading the reviews I was happy to order one for an old le Sabre. I had already replaced this item on the car about 18 months ago for the same issue, stalling and rough running. At the time Amazon did not have this item and the best deal in Canada I could find was a remanufactured item for $260, and as shown it lasted 18 months. So to see new item for this price makes you wonder. However on receiving the item in the forecast time, I was very happy to see it all looks genuine and seems to be a quality item. Fitting this is very simple on the Le sabre, pull off the engine cover by unscrewing the oil filler cover and then you have full access to the sensor. The only point to note is the security type screws that they use to put these in with, you will need the small star pattern with the center dimple, if you don’t have a set I suggest you get them or you will struggle and most likely damage the screws. 2 screws on top and one plug, and its out, new one drops in as easily. Car runs great after installing this one, the idle even seems a little lower which is not a bad thing. I would recommend this to anyone looking for this MAFS, great price and quality item. I will update if I have anything to update with.

OBD2 code P0102. Car would barely run and needed a tow. First tried cleaning old sensor but that didn’t fix the problem. This part is identical to the existing O.E. Easy to replace. Quick delivery. Car runs great now.

  7. John

Installed very easily into a 2002 Impala LS with 3.8 Liter engine (VIN K) that was lighting up the Check Engine lamp and recording a P0102 code in the OBD II system (I have a scanner to read the codes). Tried cleaning the original one with MAF Sensor cleaner and that didn’t work. Was worth a shot as the cleaner was inexpensive but wasn’t too surprised with a 16 year old MAF sensor. Been in the vehicle long enough now that it should have thrown another P0102 code as it didn’t take long to do so after I cleaned the old one. Only time will tell if the Hitachi is reliable with long term durability. Chose it based on other reviews, here and elsewhere, that were overwhelmingly very positive, unlike some of the dirt cheap ones that suffer high infant mortality. If I encounter any problems, I will update this review. Thus far, it’s performing perfectly just like the other reviews have stated.

It pays to have an OBD II scanner to plug in to the CAN Bus port (usually just under the dash on the driver side) to retrieve the diagnostic codes explaining what caused the Check Engine lamp to illuminate. The local car Chevy dealership charges $100 just to hook up their scanner and read the codes. They call it a “Troubleshooting Fee”. What a scam although their scanner is more sophisticated and can command some tests. Nevertheless, if you know what the trouble code is and look it up, many of the fixes are simple like this one, and relatively inexpensive, such as the infamous leaky gas cap gasket code. One cannot just throw parts at a code blindly as sometimes it’s ambiguous. You do need to perform some other observations and perhaps some simple tests to get to reduce it to a very high probability it’s one component.

I got this about a month ago. It is only about 65% of the cost of the OEM and as it is made by Hitachi I figured it had to be good. I have a 2000 Buick Park Avenue with a 3800 series 2 engine. I bought it in 2007 and it had 84000 miles on it, in the 9 years I have owned the car the mileage now is only 103000, so I haven’t put much mileage on it and most of the driving I do is city driving and usually got an average of between 15 and 16 miles per gallon of gas. The car ran decent and one day my “Service Engine Light” came on and I started having major problems with loosing power and hesitation and generally just running crappy along with the millage going down to about 12 to 13 MPG. I had to disconnect the MAF for it to be able to get me anywhere at all. After I installed the new MAF I could tell immediately that the engine was running better and smoother that it ever had in the time I had the car. No more problems and my millage after using 2 tanks of gas has gone up to 20 to 21 MPG. All this makes me very happy and I would recommend that if you have to replace you MAF consider one made by Hitachi, I don’t think you will be sorry

Easy to install and still doing it’s thing two years later. Price was ok at time of purchase.

I already know this brand, glad to see it wasn’t an imitation for the price. It’s a good brand, works like the oem equipment. Good buy, don’t buy cheap sensors, they never last.
