This thing is good, but it has it’s caveats.
Keep the surface cool, and if you’re feeling a lot of resistance/surface contamination even with a lot of quick detailer, put this thing down somewhere on a clean surface / in a bag etc. If you don’t and keep going over the area with pressure, it will leave a black residue on your paint that is challenging to remove and leaves micro scratches. When this happens just pull out your clay bar to attack the one spot in question.
This cuts time down substantially but do not think it replaces the standard clay bar. You’ll need both to do the job.

I love the Griot’s product line. They make some high quality products. However, when it comes down to the Clay mitt . I don’t know how they got it so wrong. It doesn’t do anything, broke it in as required. Used it on 3 cars to date and then had to redo those cars with a traditional clay bar….wtf…? Why release a product if it’s half-assed just to keep up with the Jones?

I had been using Griots clay for use, and thought I would give this a try. After first try, threw the clay out. This thing is amazing. Much quicker than clay bar. If you drop it, just rinse it off. I wash car first, then refill bucket with clean water and soap, and then co over entire car with mitt, just like a wash. Amazing results. Highly recommend.

This mitt reduces your paint prep time to less than 30 minutes. Easy to use and this is the best of this type. Use plenty of the silicone spray. You can clean it by washing it even if dropped. Works for many, many cars. Up to 50 cars!

It doesn’t replace a clay bar but is good for a quick clean up. My car had over spray from street crew (tar spots over the entire car). It worked well on the windows but wasn’t able to get the tar spots off completely from the painted sections or clear bra. I ordered the fine version (yellow) of this too so maybe it would be more suitable for this application.
It was definitely faster and more convenient to use compared to the clay bar but the difference was evident when I clayed over the area the mitt had just cleaned. The surface was clean after the clay and still had visible (albeit smaller and fewer) black tar spots after the mitt had gone over. I burned through the majority of a bar on this job so it wasn’t a simple job.

I wasn’t so sure about this when I ordered it. I’m used to clay, but thought I’d give it a try. My car had only a small amount of contaminant in the paint, but this worked wonderfully. Easy to use, seems faster than clay. And I didn’t have to worry so much about dropping it. I did rinse the pad off in water about every panel or so, as I was just worried about carrying over the small bits that it picks up.
Paint felt very smooth after using this pad, and I am happy with it.

I was hesitant to spend the $$ on this prep mitt but other reviewers convinced me to try it. Glad I bought it. I used the mitt with spray detailer for lubrication. It lifted and then left behind an easy-to-remove residue of all the junk that was contaminating my paint- a simple wipe with a micro fiber cloth removed the residue and left the paint clear, smooth and flawless. It does a very fast and very thorough job of surface prep on automotive paint prior to applying wax. A very good purchase and well worth the money.

Great product made the paint of a 27 year old car look like new.

Used this on a silver car with waterspots and did not seem to do anything whether on the paint or on the glass.
Used it on a white car with caked on dirt/grime resistant to handwashing with soap. The kind of grime that give the white paint a brownish hue. It loosened and lifted the brownish layer to where it rinsed off, and it did improve the roughness of the paint surface, but some roughness remained. May have to repeat to reduce the roughness, or it may be necessary to use conventional clay bar. Overall not perfect but big improvement.

As much as I like the results of using a clay bar on my vehicles, I dread the time it takes. After buying a used Jeep with terrible iron fall out, I was looking for a better solution to cleaning off the paint surfaces. I found this online and gave it a try. I was not disappointed. However, I did use Griot’s iron fallout spray first, but I still needed to clear off all of the remaining fallout. The mitt worked great and I could cover more area faster. I then used it on my other vehicle before giving both a much needed waxing. I highly recommend.
